Hi everyone!

I just registered to take the MCAT on May 23, 2013 at 8:00 a.m.! I had to register early because I live in NYC and seats fill up fast!

I'm gonna start with SN2's schedule in a couple of months. I ordered the books (TBR, EK, EK1001, etc) a couple of days ago.

How are you guys gonna study?

Best of luck everyone,

- DT93

Never heard from Like ....hope he did alright!

I'm sorry, I've been really busy with lab. Welcome back by the way! 😛

Alright here it is, my overview of the 05/23/13 MCAT.

This is the last time that I am ever taking this test. It's my fourth time! 😱
I started taking them a few years ago and couldn't break a 30. The level of maturity needed to properly prepare for this test was not something this 21 year old had at the time (I'm 21 right now). I had dropped out of high school, and was taking undergrad very lightly because I was going to finish it in 3 years time. Not putting in any/much studying due to burn out from school, I underestimated this guy THREE times!

Anyway, I had been doing clinical research my first gap year and finally found the time to properly study for the MCAT. 😉

Started in January with videos, audio, review books..I put in the work. I wasted less than $50 on my prep. On Monday, I took CBT-11 and scored a 34 (13/10/11).

My feelings on today's test:
PS: I was a little disappointed because something came up that I had never even seen before. I actually got that question right! Some of the passages were definitely longer than anything I had previously seen on any physical sciences section. It felt as if I was doing verbal or biological sciences. I don't recall much from the exam, except maybe guessing on a very small number of questions. It seemed pretty straight forward. My prediction, a 10.

VR: Always my worst section. No excuses, but I am a European immigrant from a country that doesn't even use the this alphabet. Easiest and most straightforward verbal section I have ever seen. If I recall correctly, I found maybe two passages difficult. Prediction: 9

BS Some boring, convoluted biology passages. 😴😴😴
The rest was a cake. Prediction: 10

Trial: I thought I put down that I took Biochemistry. 🙁 why no biochem???🙁🙁

Complaints: My runny/stuffy nose gave me a headache. Sore throat definitely didn't help either. I always took more than 10 minutes during the breaks, and I can't figure out why.

Life will change from now on. I will find the time now to contemplate why I exist.

31 --- A nice balanced score with tens in Verbal and Physical. I'm neither thrilled nor disappointed. 😎

I was dog sick during my exam, and I thought I bombed it. (Like...below 30) but I've taken and voided it before because I felt bad about my performance. I wasn't about to void again.

I made a 36. I can't accurately post my practice exam scores, because I didn't take any before this exam. I just took timed sections, but I was scoring PS 12, VR 12, BS 11/10 on those Gold Standard practice passages.

Breakdown: PS: 13 VR: 13 BS: 10 My family is happy but wants me to consider a retake because of the low BS score, but I'm like hell no. A 36 is something to be happy about! My GPA is a 3.82 and my application is overall pretty impressive. I've filled my life with my passions and dreams and I think that it will show come judgement day.

Are they crazy?? lol

Congrats!!

Scored a 31 - PS 14, VR 07, BS-10. Ugghhhh !!! Retake or Roll the dice?? Very concerned about verbal score but....Its already June 28!! Ugghhhh!! 3.96 GPA, URM.

I think you are fine - Anything above 35 + Great GPA + good ECs should be game even for Ivy league schools.

What's good? 31 and 3.96 GPA as a URM gives you a great shot even despite the 7 in VR. Do you have LORs that can attest to your ability to communicate and reason well? The reason I ask is because I know a dude (URM) who had an 8 VR but managed some good acceptances by having LORs that specifically addressed his verbal reasoning skills. Unfortunately, 7 is kinda iffy...I've heard on here that people say below an 8 usually means a retake, but I think in VR that is a little different.

What were your practice averages? If you hit on or near your practice average then I think you should rock with it.

@ChemEngMD: thanks for the input. In practice tests I scored 8-10s in VR, (quite a few 10s, so I thought I was comfortable); 11-13s in BS, and 12-14s in PS. PS was my easiest, by far. Three days before I tested, I took AAMC Test 10 &11, scored PS 14, VR 06, BS 13. and PS14 ,VR07 BS13, respectively. Those VR scores sent me on a tailspin from which I did not recover. Great point-I got three of my LOR writers including a pediatrician I shadowed (she actually offered to write me a letter) to attest to my communication ability. I guess I will rock with it. Just the thought of taking it again gives me butterflies......I will only apply in state. Thanks @ChemEngMD and <rodmichael82>

If I were you I would definitely roll with that score. I am a may 30th taker and I am expecting a score similar to yours.

How did you feel after your verbal section? I felt as if I had guessed on half of them and am scared ****less ha

Congrats on the score

Thanks zmayo56. VR - after writing that section I felt like I got sucker punched in the nose, but I also knew it was mostly educated guessing on 3/4 of the questions. Confidence lost few days before with two 6s on VR tests did not help for sure. VR is definitely not like science tests where you have that clear feeling that you aced it. Good luck to you!

I am also taking my MCAT exam in May, and I haven't really even starting studying yet I have a bunch of material, but I really do not know where to start at. How do you guys plan on studying?

hello all! congrats on those who have retaken and i hope that y'all who retook it got what you wanted- I wanted to contact anyone who took the Kaplan course about their experience with it? if their willing
