Hi everyone!

I just registered to take the MCAT on May 23, 2013 at 8:00 a.m.! I had to register early because I live in NYC and seats fill up fast!

I'm gonna start with SN2's schedule in a couple of months. I ordered the books (TBR, EK, EK1001, etc) a couple of days ago.

How are you guys gonna study?

Best of luck everyone,

- DT93

I probably didn't do a thorough search. Looked at 2010 match lists from 3 schools and they had maybe 2 surgery matches each. Oh well, good to know most options are still open. 😀

I'm so undecided, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, the post-general surgery options all look amazing and that's not even mentioning the medicine options. Can I be a doctor of all trades like back in the day 😱😡:naughty:😉

Is there anyone out there who is murdering the aamc's? All the posts I see about crappy practice scores are making me relax too much and accept my fate (DO :meanie:). I need some motivation 🙁

As I had planned out months earlier, this is the perfect test date for me to submit my application early. ...so there will be no postponing from me. Surgery options look bleak in the DO world, most likely will go into internal medicine -> cardiology luls

I've only taken AAMC3 and that was before I was done my material review of bio/orgo so I got a 10/12/8

I plan on taking 4 this weekend and the princeton review free test tonight...i thought the kaplan free test was difficult but i got a 10/12/10 so i wasn't too upset about it...

The test is supposed to be so different than the practices that I'm just going to roll with it if I can consistently stay above 30 for the rest of the AAMC ones over the next two weeks. I feel like I should have done more FLs before now, but I originally studied for the MCAT in like 2009 and voided my attempt so I feel like I have a pretty firm grasp on the logistics of how they ask questions and word passages (or at least how they did before). I really need to just get it over with

i believe we have up until the 11th of may... great avatar, by the way 👍

Thanks bruh . That stresses me out haha. I guess I'll just have to do 2 or 3 tests over the next week and really gauge where I'm at :scared:

I need to get it done eventually!

I have been doing well on my AAMC's, but I am scared to look too much into it. The other recent MCAT threads all say the real MCAT was much harder. I am trying to use that fear to motivate me until 5/23 haha.

What's well by your standards?

Amazing verbal scores 😱 Secret?
I did abysmal on the free PR test 10/5/10. Usually on the aamc's my verbal score is way higher than that >.<

I just took AAMC 3 and got a whooping 24 (10/6/8); therefore, I am postponing for July because I am way below 28+, which is my target score.

Hey! same here! Thinking of postponing it for mid July as well . However very nervous about doing that! My baby is due in June postponing to July might mean not taking it at all :/ it's my first baby and I have no idea how it's going to be with the whole sleep deprivation deal. I really wanted to take it before having the baby but my brain is so foggy! On top of that I am having the horrible seasonal allergies! And I can't treat these with anything bc of my pregnancy! So even more of a foggy brain! In retrospect I thought studying for this year's MCAT was going to be a little easier than it actually is.

What's well by your standards?

AAMC 3: 36 (13/10/13)
AAMC 4: 37 (12/12/13)
AAMC 5: 39 (14/12/13)
AAMC 7: Today

I'm doing fine but again, I don't want to read too much into it. There are people averaging 35's on practice AAMC's get 30 or so on the real deal on some of the other MCAT threads. My goal is 30+ with 35+ being a dream come true.

Thanks Like. I wish I had a secret to share, but honestly I just kind of "get" verbal reasoning. I guess I follow the EK system, but only loosely. I rarely if ever practice it, I spend most of my time trying to get my science knowledge up.

The only thing I've been able to surmise as a potential trick is that I try to thoroughly enjoy each passage and I am very pretentious/cocky when I read them. I try to get a picture of the writer and why he/she wrote this passage and what are they trying to convince/inform me of. I usually highlight very little...just names and main theme stuff. wish I had more to tell you! If only I could get better at the science haha. We'll see how TPR goes in a couple hours

how are your scores in the recent ones?

Just took the free TPR test... 10/11/8...I'm so bad at ochem  I'm legit thinking about postponing ugh

The bio section on this did not seem very AAMC-ish though...it was very based on the knowledge you have going in rather than discerning things from the passage...and the verbal was really weird too...idunno...but it was still good practice

For everyone thinking about rescheduling:

Changes to your reservation must be made by 11:59PM ET on May 09, 2013

^^That's what the website says...so we have until Thursday

It's $90?

Yep. I've rescheduled twice haha FML. I don't think I can again though. There are no available test dates until like the end of July for where I live...so I figure might as well try for this date and if the test goes horrendous and I get my scores back at the end of June and they are miserable I can retake in August...although I really don't want to

Hey y'all.. I was posting in the 5/11 thread since this thread wasn't as active. I just finished my last AAMC and got 11/10/11...the day before 10/12/10... I'm jus going to focus on content review for these next two weeks I suppose... no idea what else I can do... any ideas? Already did the self-assessments, TBR, and AAMC... maybe i should just focus on reviewing on exams, particularly wrong answers?

What I have been doing is doing a quick review of all of the material every two days or so. This might be notecards, notes, whatever you have.

Then, I have been focusing on my weaknesses. If I miss I question on an AAMC, I do a thorough review and 2-3 passages on that topic alone. Good luck!

Anybody else starting to feel burned out? I feel like I'm just ready to take this thing and get it over with.

yep.... i've been re-reading through (skimming) TPR Bio to make sure I know what I'm doing. Going to spend the next week going over my AAMC exams and doing discretes... MCAT has consumed my life for far too long. we got this, though... only 10 days until the moment of truth

I'm totally cool with everyone slacking off cause that hopefully equates to a more lenient curve 👍 I'm down for anything to get my 33 at this point

Oh dude...but that's not how it works. :naughty: The scale is set way before we even take the exam so there's no point for that... you... yoou. dog.. you

f*** this exam lol... my goals this week are:

- go through all TBR chapters/ passages again (i ripped out the explanations on the back so i'm just skimming for retention)
- watch some o-chem videos (admittedly, i haven't studied this as much as i should since i just took orgo)

next week:
re-do AAMC 7 and 11
verbal self assessment

LET'S DO THIS.... 10 full days of hard studying left until freedom 🙂

 I always assumed it was set by how everyone on that day did. Well, it's not looking great for me haha just dropped a 28 (10/9/9) on AAMC 5...effing terrible...the crazy part is how close all those scores are...to get my 10/10/10 I only needed 1 more question right on BS and 1 on VR...guess every question means more than I realized haha...plus I need to stop taking these tests this late at night...

Hope everyone else's studies are going well

Stay motivated guys. it is all or nothing time!! We can work our hardest and succeed and then enjoy life for a month lol.

Hey everyone, hope your studying is going well! Confidence is half the battle... may we enter the test center with no fear next week 😎

Hope everyone is still doing well! We'll be done a week from now. :luck:

On a personal note:

I took AAMC 8 this morning: 12/10/9 ...I've got to learn some damn bio this last week so I can get that up to a 10, I've gotten 9s on almost every test

Who is all applying this coming cycle? I'm trying to work on my PS as well as my school list at the moment.

I am. I've written about a dozen versions of my PS...I'm revisiting it this weekend because I'm still not happy with it. I have a tentative school list as well. I am trying to cut it down to 20ish though...last time I looked it was near 30. 😱

Hey guys....so I posted this as an individual thread but realized it makes more sense to post it here! Have any of you done cracking the MCAT practice tests and other TPR tests? What do you guys think of the bio? I have gotten 12's on previous tpr bio sections from other full lengths but ended up with a 9 on cracking test 3....I took my last ammc full length last sunday and got a 12 in bio...so I'm not sure if I just forgot stuff or this test wasn't great. I haven't heard much about cracking tests.

It's like killing my confidence for thursday though. starting to get nervous.

Remember that the mcat is another hurdle to jump, you don't need to jump as high as outer space (score a 40) to become a competent doctor.

Good luck everyone! 😍😍😍 Sometimes when people post their practice test scores, it makes me wonder how... 40~ average. Studying for months now (not like a robot), and am not even getting close to a 40...sigh.😀

So as long as you're not sick on test day you should have your exam scored?

Can being sick for a few days before wear you out and lower your performance on Thursday even if you're no longer sick?

I think it's a mental game. If you start telling yourself 4 days out, "I've been sick, it's probably going to wear me out and lower my performance" then it will probably be a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you decide to look at it as, "I'm getting better; I should kill this thing" then you'll probably be fine.

Unless you're talking something more than the flu/allergies...good luck!
