Hey Everyone,

I was searching through the threads to see if one has been created for this test date yet, but I could not find it so I thought I would create it. I am waiting for finals to finish up and then going to hit practice tests for the next three months!

I just wanted to say congrats to you. You truly have shown you have the perseverance and commitment to succeed in medical school. Not many people would be willing to take this test 4 times but you kept going till you succeeded and I really respect that. I wish you good luck this application cycle.

Thanks a lot, I am ecstatic :luck: Good luck to you as well!

First of all: CONGRATULATIONS to G1SG2!!! I have been reading your comments and hoping the best for you. I'm so glad you did well 👍

Second of all: Oh dear god!!!!! This wait has been eating me alive!

AAMC average 34
I thought I scored low 30s on this one...when I was feeling confident and in my paranoid nightmares I thought I might have been way lower than that.

July 29th
PS: 11 (this section is the reason I thought I needed to retake! Totally happy with an 11 🙂)
VR: 12
WR: Q
BS: 12

35Q: Damn, I am so satisfied after scaring myself sh*tless this past month.

Thanks to everyone who posted here, it really helped as a distraction.

Can you guys help me out? How do I cancel my date for the September 2nd MCAT. I can't seem to find where I can cancel it from.

So what do I do now? I registered thinking that I would sit the test because I didn't do good on this one but I did alright so now I don't want to do the test. Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't think you can anymore; you're past the deadline.

Thanks for the encouragement man. A part of me feels like a douche for complaining, but that feeling in my gut that comes with a less than spectacular performance still hurts.

I really wanted my scores to show my potential, especially since difficult courses in college (I double majored in Biophysics and Econ) made my gpa a bit lower, but not horrible.

Droofus, were you also a 7/29?
Don't worry, I feel sort of the same way, I got a 35 but feel like I could have done a lot better because I know the stupid mistakes that I made in PS and BS, and the reading score really stung. I don't want to complain about the score as I'm not disappointed, but I am slightly annoyed with myself.

I'd be ecstatic if I hadn't scored a 32 just a couple years earlier. Hopefully schools wont count that against me.

Just don't show up. There will be no record that you were signed up for it (other than your credit card statement). Since the deadline has passed to cancel, you won't get any $$ back, regardless.

Here's my prediction from the day of:

I just want to post my prediction for how I did here so I can look back in August and see how well I sized up my performance:

PS = 11
VR = 9
BS = 9
WS = Q

For a 29. <_< For how well I was testing.

Here are my actual scores:
PS=11
VR=10
BS=10
WS=Q

31Q

Pretty happy. The three AAMCs I took were 29, 33, 33... so I'm pretty much right where I expected to be.

My situation's somewhat unusual. I got a 37O this time.

Breakdown:

PS: 12
VR: 15
BS: 10

Did anyone else here ace the VR and bomb the other sections?

I'm hoping MediCynical can come back and post something...during our prep time I remember him/her scoring high 30s on his/her practice exams and I think s/he would be most likely to break the 40 mark!

Even though I'm happy with my 31Q, I'm pissed about my Bio score. I never got below a 12 on it on the AAMC. Pulled a 10 on test day. Everything else was right where I expected.

My first MCAT TEST.

The bio was pretty hard. I thought I completely bombed it. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I'd get a 14 on the BS. Good thing I did since my VR was lackluster.

Seriously G1SG2 you have the persistence of a cockroach. I don't think I would have been able to take this exam as many times as you lol.

Good Job

Same here...got a 12 on bio last year, and a 10 this time around. And our bio was pretty beastly, I thought there would be a nice curve...? The MCAT is a very, very strange test. Oh well, I'm happy with my score as well!

I usually nail all the bio passages and then take my chances with the Ochems. The one passage definitely killed me, and two of my ochem passages were heavy which has always been my weak point.

Oh well.

For those of you who have improved on the verbal section, please give me advice....to improve my Verbal score for next year's exam.

I didn't exactly improve dramatically on my verbal but I thought I'd share a few thoughts. I scored an 11 on my Kaplan diagnostic for verbal and was feeling comfortable but after trying out Kaplan's verbal strategy of mapping and looking for keywords my score plummeted on their practice tests. It took me a few months to get back to normal using Examkrackers. I just got back to reading the passage critically and with mostly genuine interest. I think it's best to take the passage in as a whole and not pick it apart. I tried to learn from each passage. I thought EK was a really commonsense approach. Small things like sitting up straight and leaning forward to focus myself on the passage helped. The EK advice to take a 5 second break between passages also helped. Earplugs helped!

I also noticed that I would sometimes lose concentration for a moment or two during a passage and not bother to reread the couple of sentences that I'd missed during the minor zone out because I was worried about time. If I didn't understand a sentence, I wouldn't reread it because again I thought it was more important to have time to answer the questions. I was wrong about this. You need to understand the passage really well to get a decent score. It's no good getting to the questions with lots of time and not understanding the passage. It doesn't matter if you have ten minutes on each question -- if you don't get the passage you won't get the right answer. So reread the sentence a few times or go back a few sentences if you zoned out a bit (or better yet, don't zone out) because you need to understand what the author is saying.

All that said, I've been reading the WSJ for years, not to improve my verbal score but because it's interesting. I think that helped. I also like this website for links to all sorts of articles on many topics http://www.aldaily.com/
You'll no doubt find something that interests you on this site that you can read for practice! Again, I tried to read all the mcat passages with genuine interest and EK will also tell you to read it critically. Different strategies work for different people, do what makes sense to you.

Good Luck 🙂

I got the exact same score as you except a P in the Writing. I'm dissapointed with it, thought I did better but I definitely knew coming out of it that it was my worst section. But yea, I think we'll be okay.

nice score

Thanks UnclePhil, it looks good on you too. I made some supremely stupid mistakes as well but it's over and the score is good enough so on to bigger and better things! Don't sweat a couple of silly mcat problems...seriously.

Went from a 19 on my first TPR diag to a 34 on aamc 9 and a 37 on aamc 10

Ended up with a 34S on the real deal! 11PS 12V 11BS

Hope it balances out a 3.5 gpa?

Not happy about BS score, since scored above 10 on all practice tests. I really don't want to take the test over again... maybe I'll go for DO.

Any thoughts on 28N for MD? I know there's a lot more than just the MCAT score that goes into consideration for acceptance, but nonetheless... what do you think?

I know someone who got into a very competitive med school (MD program) with this MCAT scare. Your GPA is great, so if you feel that your application is strong overall, I'd go for it. The way I see it: worst case scenario, you won't get in, which is exactly what is guaranteed to happen if you don't apply at all. Best case scenario: Hello, Class of 2015 🙂

Good luck!

Congrats! What did u do to improve 4 pts in verbal within just over a month?? I'm really struggling with verbal... Thx!

Over the month, all I did was VR... didn't even bother reviewing sciences or writing whatsoever. I spend approximately 10 hours a day reading various materials found at my library, trying to focus on topics that I was unfamiliar with. I bought the Exam Crackers VR passages, and did a full set of verbal reasoning passages each day.

My biggest suggestion would be to just submerse yourself in high caliber literature for a month...that's what I did.

Best of luck.

Congrats to all of you for finishing guys. Im taking my MCAT on sat. Just one question. Scores aside did you feel that the real thing was like the AAMC's? This is so discussed I know lol. For instance if hypothetical AAMC "11" was your test and it was available for practice. . . Would it stand out?

What scares me is when people say they "bombed" a section and then turn around and get an 11+. You can only miss 8 or 9 questions for that score.

Thanks for the encouragement man. A part of me feels like a douche for complaining, but that feeling in my gut that comes with a less than spectacular performance still hurts.

Droofus, were you also a 7/29?

Not to be mean but there have been people who've gotten in harvard and hopkins with 30 and 33 and people who've been rejected with 40+. there is more to just plain numbers in getting in a top school. a 38 or 40 or even 45 would not have gotten a guarantee into these sco called top schools.
