107 days out! Who all is signed up to obliterate the MCAT August 7th?

I know it's a bit early but I searched and could not find another August 7th, 2014 MCAT thread! I am hoping that we can keep each other motivated this summer while studying...

I am starting a slightly modified SN2ed schedule May 7th.... slightly modified due to my incredible weakness with physics. I am not taking physics 2 before the MCAT and therefore will be self-teaching it.

Looking forward to hearing from some of y'all!

It'll be ridiculous. I'm ready for a calculation heavy PS. I actually prefer that, less conceptual crap to force me to resort to process of elimination.

Well as long as it is not both conceptual and math heavy (I prefer either or). Cause I had my fair share of that in the past and it sucked. Process of elimination would be tough if the number were close in value. I expect that to happen on the real exam.

Which AAMCs would you guys consider "calculation-heavy" vs "conceptual-heavy" ?

If conceptual = AAMC 8 then I'll pass and take the regular ones... but if calculation-heavy is much more than the normal AAMCs timing will be 😕

I know, me too. Timing is always down to the last minutes, but I'm finishing consistently now.

I'm wondering the exact same thing! AAMC #8 seemed to be more on the conceptual side.

Ps-someone else mentioned earlier that they will be doing sit-ups in between sections...well I will be that girl doing jumping jacks and planks, haha!

I'll be the one popping out 80s dance moves :zip:Make everyone think I have gone insane at my test site.

Sorry if someone already asked this, but what do you guys think is a solid last FL for me to take today? I'm studying with Kaplan and have already taken FLs 1-4 (and part of 5) and AAMC 9, 10, and 11. Would appreciate any quick suggestions as I am planning on taking it in the next hour! Thanks

I would say AAMC #8. I see that a lot of people score well on that one (including myself) and could potentially be a nice confidence booster before the test.

What's everyone doing until Thursday?! I think I'm just going to be reviewing flashcards, weaknesses, and a Verbal Section test or 2.

Just going to read over my notes one more time and a few verbal passages to get me into the zone. Nothing crazy because I think I will perform better with my brain rested.

Does anyone know why the 1st nitrogen in imidazole is considered sp2 as opposed to sp3? It's the nitrogen that's bonded to the hydrogen has a lone pair. I thought it is sp3 originally because it has 4 electron domains.

Hmmm that nitrogen is definitely sp3 hybridized. 3 bonds to it and a lone pair? Check that answer again...

The reason why it's sp2 is because of the particular ring structure. Because of the double bonds in the ring, the nitrogen bonded to a hydrogen is "locked in" to its current state of 3 sp2 bonds. It cannot contribute a fourth sp3 bond because the lone pair electrons are stabilized by the ring structure.

Heard from a friend that scores in the teens for verbal that it was ridiculous on aug 2. Hopefully this means we'll get the harder physics and easier verbal haha
Bite your tongue! I can do verbal, but physics, even with successful scores, scares the**** out of me!

For an Electrochemical redox reaction to be spontaneous, is it necessary for the E (naught) cell value to be positive?
For redox reactions, spontaniety is determined by the equation G0 = -nFE0. G0 is the free-energy change, n is the number of moles of electrons, F is Faraday's constant (96,500 C), and E0 is the overall reduction potential of the cell. Since G0 is negative in a spontaneous reaction, E0 for the cell must be positive for a redox reaction in a voltaic cell.

Right. E needs to be positive.

Thanks homies

What's everyones strategy in reducing anxiety & avoiding built up anxiety with the test only 2 days away!?
Good flavored iced tea (I'm a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf junkie), seeing a movie tomorrow afternoon with my fiance, going through Half Price Books and looking at all the health books/ thinking about all I'm going to get to learn about in medical school, using beautiful music about courage and following dreams, playing my favorite video games i haven't allowed myself to play all summer, thinking about my curriculum for the upcoming school year and fun field trips to take my 5th graders on, finishing the last AAMC material and reviewing my remaining weaknesses, being in contact with my favorite people, running errands that have been put on hold, reminding myself that August 7th will come and go and that this is just a right of passage to the next chapter of my life, reminding myself that September 9th will come and go and that that is also part of an amazing journey i GET to go through, watching cheesy old episodes of Grey's Anatomy, reading about virus hunters working for the CDC and why I'm putting myself through this in the first place, playing on Facebook and SDN...

You know, just chilling and enjoying the journey.

The worst part of this whole ordeal is the month long wait. Really? A month to score a multiple choice test?

I though that you would be used to waiting. I mean you have been waiting for Kendrick to release an album right? It has been almost two years. 😛

IGNORE THIS IF YOU ARE JUST TRYING TO BE AT PEACE! haha

But in case anyone wanted to do one more:

A small quantity of glycine is placed in a buffer solution of pH 2.0 and an electric field is applied. What will happen to the glycine sample? (pI = 6.0)

A. It will migrate to the anode.
B. It will migrate to the cathode.
C. It will not migrate.
D. It will migrate, but in an unpredictable direction.

Highlight for answer: B

Got it right, thanks for the question.

I just took the first 7 passages of the verbal Self assessment and I want to check my results before I continue... Can anyone give me the answers to the first 36 questions to the aamc verbal sa test?

Okay this ALWAYS messes me up...

In electrochemical cells, electrons (negatively charged) move to the cathode.
But in this type of question, positively charged ions move to the cathode. RIGHT? 😢
