107 days out! Who all is signed up to obliterate the MCAT August 7th?

I know it's a bit early but I searched and could not find another August 7th, 2014 MCAT thread! I am hoping that we can keep each other motivated this summer while studying...

I am starting a slightly modified SN2ed schedule May 7th.... slightly modified due to my incredible weakness with physics. I am not taking physics 2 before the MCAT and therefore will be self-teaching it.

Looking forward to hearing from some of y'all!

FYI I heard they send that email about retaking to people randomly and it's not correlated with your score. I know someone who got a 34 and got the email.

Hey everyone!

Ive been lurking this thread for awhile and just made an account to post here. Its been fun reading our MCAT journey. Im gonna just say no matter what my score is Im gonna still post it!

I took the 8am test, felt decent about phys, good in bio, scared in verbal LOL

My AAMC average was 31.6

LETS GO GUYS

interesting, must have just been the schools I applied to and looked at.

You are correct that the GPA doesn't budge as much when comparing MD vs. DO as the MCAT does. There are a handful of DO schools out there that have average GPAs on par (or close to it) with a few MD schools.

Spot on. MCAT wise, for example, West Virginia DO school's matriculant average is 8/8/8. You're not gonna see that with MD. But if you don't care about your letters it's way the hell better than going out of the country.

Hmm, y'all are making me formulate a backup plan on the spot while I'm sitting here waiting for the axe to drop.

Sure I do but I don't think there's any way I got near it. Even my practice MCATs weren't hitting 30 (highest 29). But since I'm DO-minded a 27 would probably push off my retake til January whereas the 23 I think I got would put me into November crunch time.

I am also interested in a DO program. It's actually tied for my #1 choice (given I have options after my MCAT score releases). Where you are interested in attending?

I'm a weirdo case. I'm an old as hell (28) non-trad (former English teacher, Journalism degree) who had no science background before taking a post-bacc program which I kinda aced (3.8+). As a surly, old, impatient man I will go literally anywhere that will accept me. But I'll be applying to just about all of the NJ/PA MD or DO schools as well as a school that my aunt and uncle both attended in Ohio (Wright State? I always forget cause ew Ohio). But I'm gonna cast the net far and wide and show that I can be a doctor even if I cant do physics.

Well I'm 27. Hope that doesn't make me almost "old as hell!" 🙂 I think you will be fine, good luck with your score and the application process! It takes a lot of courage to change fields completely! I bet your personal statement was awesome!!! :highfive:

Hey now! We've got some things going for us... 3 or 4 sh***y football teams, horrible highways, and you can experience all 4 seasons in 3 days!

Sorry to have to break it to you but yeah, we old. And personal statement...yeah I should probably start thinking about that (not applying til next cycle). But with my background I know I'll have a good one and be awesome during interviews. It's also why I never really had to prep for Verbal. But that balanced out with Physics because math lol.

I'll yield that you're not Montana, Utah, or Mississippi. Nah, to be fair there's a lot crappier places to end up but I have a friend doing his PhD outside Cleveland (whatever that school is) and he's always lamenting how there's nothing to do but drink.

The cool thing is that in med school you don't have time for anything but studying so whatevs.
