The Official August 9, 2013 MCAT Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Haha thanks, man. Yeah, yeah, I know, this test doesn't define you, I'm still a full circle regardless, etc., but still. I dedicated this entire summer (whilst foregoing some pretty awesome internships) to this piece of bull**** and the least I want to do is to do well and at least meet my expectations.

Because if not, then I gave up the once in a lifetime opportunity to work on implementing DC's new health insurance exchange for nothing...

haha well I was saying that to @shyspliceosome, not that it doesnt apply to you too though 🙂

Im sure youll do great. That's a bummer about the internship though. Just think about all the cool opportunities that a good MCAT score can open up!

Finished with postgame and again it pains me to see what my score could've been without baby mistakes lol. Whatever I'll ignore it. I'm sure adrenaline will keep me sharp as an eagle on Friday. How are people feeling?

How do people even manage to get > 13 on verbal reasoning?! It seems like there are always a few questions in VR that are pretty much impossible to answer (for me at least), or have disputable answers. Especially those darn inference questions. Of course there's no point in arguing any of these questions, unfortunately. :\

Don't give up. If you go through the 30+ thread you'll see a lot of people who beat out their averages and AAMC 11 scores by multiple points.
:

Just read several posts on the 30+ thread...thanks for the encouragement!

Hey keep your chin up! Remember that God has a plan for your life whether that includes a good MCAT score or not. Do your best and trust him; that's the only option you've got!

👍 I agree...thanks, bwest!!

Cannot focus on reviewing/practicing for the life of me. Thinking of just taking the rest of today and tomorrow off.

I can totally relate...get some rest! 🙂

So, guys, what are your plans after this lovely MCAT (aside from complaining about how hard it was, lol)? Vacationing? Hanging out with friends? Going to the beach?

I'm going to be hanging out with my family, finishing secondaries, exercising, reading, baking, graphic designing, and buying textbooks for the fall. 😛

I'm studying abroad in Mexico this fall and I leave the 11th!!! I haven't started packing or reading the book for the summer assignment yet haha so that's what I'll be doing Friday night and all day Saturday

I'm going to drink and party until I pass out.

lol jk introvert problems lol.

I'm gonna enjoy the 12 days of summer I have left. That includes packing, seeing the girlfriend since she left for study abroad in May (she's coming down right after she gets back!!!!!!), and moving back to school.

Then onto my extra fun ECs and research. Can't wait.

Also need to finalize my schedule for the fall lol, but it's 90% in place already. #lateregistrationpolicyproblems

Hey all!

Hope you all are done studying, it's time to relax and get mentally prepared for friday. I just wanna put in my two cents for what's coming...

this is my second time taking this baby (took the first one july 9th) but was in the completely wrong mental state. Everyone told me the best thing to do is go in calm...and I took that WAY to literally. Turns out, I was way too calm and didn't end up finishing any section. I've found for me at least, going into tests mildy stressed out actually benefits your testing. Gets that adrenaline going. So if I can give you any advice, don't go in freaking out, but use that little bit of nervousness to your advantage. Lastly, go kick some ass and as always kcco!

When I'm done I'm gonna do some more passages.

LOL.... I don't wish an entire summer of MCAT studying on my worst enemy. Seriously. When I'm done, I'm gonna relax and let this cheesing virus die off. Then back to working out, playing soccer and seeing friends. Along with essays and secondaries 👍

Hey! Howd it go?!
Worse than I'd been doing. 35/12/11/12 AAMC 9
I managed to bring up my score from 30 on AAMC 3 at the beginning of July to now 38/12/11/15 on both 10 and 11.

Feeling good about Friday though!

What are everyone's plans for test morning? I've got wake up, quick workout, breakfast, shower, and be at the testing center by 7:20-7:30

Friday night; Beer Mile at my old high school with my old high school track/ cross country friends.
Saturday morning; driving to upstate NY for sleep away running cross country camp (i'm a counselor) where I have been going since freshman year of high school.

Basically catching up with awesome people I haven't seen all summer because the MCAT is a succubus that drained my entire summer of enjoyment.

I can not wait to be done with this

Anyone having problems with emcat? In the middle of 11 and then off it goes. Man why now 🙁
It wouldnt even work smh

Wow this is amazing. Even as I look at the binders full of notes, problems, postgames, and score reports, I feel like I've done nothing this summer lol...

I'm just worried about the verbal on the real test. I remember it being much harder than the AAMCs the last time I took it. And my buddy took it the other day and said the same thing. Makes my 10 avg on verbal worrisome.

I can assure you the VR a week ago wasn't bad at all. Practice AAMCs were pretty indicative.

Hmm okay thanks.

Thinking of taking an hour or two going through the material on mcatreview.org tomorrow. Anyone else doing this?

Yea MCAT review is great. Good way to make sure you have at least some idea of everything on the topics list.

Okay sounds like a plan. I feel it's the least I can do given I've missed a bunch of days. Almost there guys!

I love that page! Thinking about giving it a last view tomorrow just to feel a bit more confidence

Oh,studying for Mcat ends today. I am just working at 24 hour fitness. Trying to stay mentally alert for the D -day. Are you guys ready for the 30+?

Yes, but it's where exactly in the 30+ I'll be that I'm worried about.

Well everyone, last day before the test.
good luck to everyone, stay fresh, sleep well, and kill it tomorrow!

We are so close! Good luck to everyone!

Make sure to review a little, exercise, hydrate, eat and sleep well. Channel all anxiety/nerves into domination tomorrow

This is so surreal though. I swear just yesterday I was struggling with BR Bio. How is it this close so fast?

In before the exam shatters what is left of my confidence, here is what my thoughts are now.

I don't believe in "setting goals" when it comes to standardized exams, because the goal is to always get the highest score possible (duh). I've always believed that as soon as complacency sets in when you think you're at your "goal," that's the exact attitude that will help you not achieve said goal.

I can realistically expect the following: if the trend from previous MCAT date threads holds true, it is more likely than not that either PS or BS will be harder than we expect to see from the AAMCs, but this doesn't mean our score will vary as much from our averages as we'd believe, barring excessive nerves and other strenuous circumstances.

However, fear of becoming complacent doesn't mean I can't hazard a wild guess of what I'm capable of at this point, just to help my confidence a bit hehe. I think 14/11/13 is a pretty good prediction of my capabilities at this point. With any luck, I'll get a PS that's not impossible and have a shot at 15, which I may need in case my unstable BS drops to a 12. VR I have scored 11 consistently, so that's not an issue. Hopefully I don't dip to a 13/11/11 like I have done on some practice tests due to baby mistakes 🙁

Graphic design sounds awesome heh, what tools do you work with? I used to be pretty serious about it but these days I just design posters for my uni's Science Undergraduate Society and that's about it. That reminds me, I have to buy textbooks too...

Going for dinner with my girlfriend after the exam, then throwing a party at my place the next day. I have an interview for a research position the week after and I think I might go for a little vacation following that! So stoked.

Good luck son, if you are a girl good luck daughter lol. I believe you will do fine, am just worried abt me. Remember me in your prayers

How to know your mcat score. Divide the number of posts u have made on sdn from number of days you spent studying and multiply answer by 45 and you good to go.

First off, I appreciate all those who gave me support and advice regarding my sub-par test scores. Evidently, I didn't prep as efficiently as I had thought for this exam. We are now on the eve of the exam and I scored an 18 on my last AAMC exam (#11). I'm not sure if I should void or have my exam graded. I already have one bad score on file (a 14N).

Void or just don't go. If the majority of your practice tests are in the teens, you just aren't ready.

Btw.. Definitely shouldn't be taking any FLs the day before. Y'all should be chillin out hard.

I guess I'm old-school, lol...I still use Adobe Photoshop/Image-ready 😛 What programs do you use?

So here's basically where I'm at, as far as the MCAT goes:

Ultimate dream score: 45 (of course!) 😛

Dream score: 36

Goal score: 33

Probable score: 26 🙁
