***The Official COLORADO Class of 2018 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

The interview is very... nice I think is the best word for it. It wasn't too stressful and they sincerely want to get to know who you are. I was in the afternoon and we started off with a tour with 2 current students, then got an overview of the school/class by Dr. Moreno and then did 2 interviews each about 30 minutes. In your off time while waiting for interviews you get to talk to the current students (about 6-8 of them) which I thought was great! Overall, I had a great experience and left feeling positive. I thought the interview thread on thread on SDN was very helpful to prepare for the day, the questions were relatively similar: http://studentdoctor.net/schools/school/ucsd
And yes, they did indicate they were going to send out about half of the acceptances (~40) in December. Good luck!

Alright, I had my interview today and I've got 5 more hours until my flight leaves so lets make this a comprehensive breakdown so I can procrastinate on Physical Biochemistry.

First off, it is true, the interview is remarkably relaxed, second only to my experience at UoP. I was in the morning session as opposed to the afternoon and it looks like they have one interview day per month, starting in September. This means there are only 3 dates before December, each with a morning and noon session. There were 16 students in the morning session, so extrapolating you've got 32 a day, and 96 interviewed candidates total. My impression is that they are interviewing to accept you, and yes there is the statistic that they are looking to fill up half of the class (it is a class of 80), but of course every accepted individual will not accept the acceptance. So, it is my impression (this is by no means a fact) that about 80 acceptances will go out with the idea that half will matriculate from the original round of acceptances. If this is true then you are looking at an 83% chance of acceptance to the school if you have a pre-December interview. That being said, I would say the stats then cut in half if you have a post-December interview because half of the seats will be available, but I don't know how long they plan on interviewing so don't lose hope!

For the morning session, we started off with an info session and basic financial aid, and immunizations were really stressed. Barbara Swedensky and Mrs./Dr. Moreno head up this portion. This is actually the shortest info session I have yet to experience. It was basically an hour and fifteen minutes if I remember correctly, but felt more like 20-30. Next you have a respite and can snack and talk with available dental students. Depending on your schedule, you will either have 45 minutes to eat, or will have your first interview with a break in between, or 2 interviews with a break at the end. I had my 2 interviews after a particularly long break, so I just sat and chatted with the interviewees and dental students.

At 10:15 I was brought into my first interview with Dr./Ms. Brunson, and she was so nice! I was really glad to have her as well, because it gave me a chance to talk about global health initiatives and available outreach programs in Colorado that I might be able to become a part of if I matriculate here. It was all really conversational and I was asked about my future plans with dentistry, what I have learned about the business side of dentistry from my shadowing and interning, why I chose the school, and about my research. Quite nice, and these are topics that I love discussing so I was very happy with the whole ordeal. I also had questions prepared and we chatted longer than the interview was supposed to go, which cut into my second interview a bit actually.

My second interview was with Dr. Williams, who is involved with research, and I found to be a remarkably satiric man. We made jokes and his first question was based off of my personal statement, and he followed up asking questions about my own research, my goals in life, what I do for fun, my manual dexterity practices, and I'm sure a bit more that I don't quite remember. He was very relaxed the whole time and we laughed quite often. He stretches out and calmly lets you talk. I found it very enjoyable and both interviews didn't really feel like an interview at all, which luckily has been a common theme for all of my experiences thus far.

Afterwards, we went for a tour of the amazingly beautiful campus and learned a bit about the ins and outs of the school. We saw the sim lab, anatomy lab, study rooms, locker rooms, places to eat, multitude of clinics, etc... Afterwards I wound up meeting with one of the dental students and he gave me another 15 minute tour of the library and places to study. Overall, it was a great experience and none of you need to stress at all, although a little bit of nervousness will release adrenaline and help you focus, so I suggest being ever so slightly antsy with anticipation. Good luck everyone and feel free to PM if you have any more personal questions or really any questions at all. I will possibly see some of you next year!

Does anyone know for sure if they will only be sending snail mail to let everyone know if they got in? Or do you think they will call/email everyone??

I'm pretty sure there will be a call/email if we're accepted. I think they will also send a letter though. I could be wrong too.

I got the call from Barbara Swedensky at 7:17 this morning, which would be 8:17 in Colorado. I believe they usually call in alphabetical order and my last name starts with an E, so I'm sure she has a lot more calls to make. I am so excited!!! Good luck everyone!

Just got the call!! I can't believe it, so excited 🙂 good luck everyone!

Are you guys in-state? Out of state? I interviewed back on September 28th and I still haven't heard anything. Starting to freak out.

*Goes and cries in the corner*

I'm in state and I got the call at 11:42 mountain time. I also interviewed on September 28th, but I have no idea what sort of order she is making the calls in. But don't lose hope..Barbara has a LOT of calls to make and is likely still calling people!

How late do you think they will be calling? anxious over here lol!! Do you think maybe they we call tomorrow if they do not get to everyone?

I got the call this morning @ 9:40am AZ time! SO excited, this is my top choice! I look forward to meeting everyone in August!

Just because I didn't see many people get accepted on SDN, I am going to assume that they didn't call everyone today, so for those of you who have lost hope or are worried, I would wait until tomorrow to see if anyone else gets the call. Don't lose hope!

Got the call yesterday afternoon! Good Luck to those who have not heard, I am sure it will come today! Colorado Class 2018! So Stoked!!

Got the call yesterday right before noon! So excited! I heard that they may call OOS people first in the morning, then in state after that.
Congrats everyone!

I have been looking at the Forums from last year and it looks like there were several people who were in the first interview group but didn't get accepted until late January. So even if you haven't gotten a call yet - don't worry because there is DEFINITELY still a lot of hope!

There is most definitely still hope for those who haven't heard yet, my older brother is currently a first year dental student at Colorado and said many of his classmates were accepted after the initial invites went out on Dec. 3rd last year! Don't give up! Best of luck to everyone!!

Hey guys, so Colorado is in a 3-way tie for my number one school. May I ask you guys to list the major (and possibly minor) reasons for your choosing this dental school over all of the others? I want to add as many pros and cons as I can for each school so I can decide based on a holistic review of all of the pertinent points and info available. I would really appreciate it, and thank you!

I am currently a D1 student at Colorado and I was in the exact same situation as you. My top 3 reasons for choosing Colorado were:
1) The ACTS program. This program allows the opportunity for 4th year students to work at dental clinics across the state (on and off for like the last 6 months or so). This is a HUGE opportunity because we not only get a taste of what real a dental practice is like, but we can also see far more patients in that time than any student could ever see at the school's clinic in the same amount of time. I've only seen this type of program at 1 other school. Definitely a huge plus.

2) Part I of the Boards are taken summer after your 1st year. I honestly didn't know how much of a benefit this one was until a few weeks ago when I was at a national conference for the American Student Dental Association. I talked to a bunch of students at other schools and every single one of them said how much they would have loved to be able to take it after their first year. Trying to remember such detailed information for 2 years when its possible to take it after only 1 is torture. Not only do we take it after our first year, but apparently they prepare us well because only like 2 people failed it last year and had to retake it. I don't know what past years beyond that have been, but I have been told it's been about the same for a good little while.

3) Cheapest out-of-state tuition. I don't know where you are coming from, but Colorado has pretty cheap out of state tuition. I don't know if it is the cheapest all around, but it definitely was out of the schools I got into.

Also, I noticed that you are debating between UoP, Colorado and Roseman. I don't know much about UoP, but this much I can say... we go pretty much year round here at Colorado. It would be nice to be able to do the same thing but be done a year earlier.
As for Roseman... Roseman is very expensive and is a new school so nobody really knows how well their methods are working just yet, but I was definitely turned on by the new facilities and the supposedly encouraged professor-student-colleague relationships. Sometimes there is a huge disconnect between students and faculty that can be extremely discouraging and frustrating. Wouldn't hurt to have a better relationship encouraged by administration.

Overall though, I have been pretty happy with my decision to come to Colorado. I hope this helps. Sorry it was so long winded. Good luck with your decision. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I got the call yesterday (around 11am MST) that I've been accepted! What a huge relief. I interviewed on 12/7 and was told that we wouldn't find out until January/February so the call was a huge surprise. I'm 99% sure that I will accept here... can't wait to meet my future classmates!

Oh man Krjo9149 you just made my heart a little sad, buttttt I'm so happy for you! Can you post your Stats, I also interviewed that day- Were you in the morning or afternoon?

Congrats! I also got the call yesterday from the December 7th interview and will be going here next year! I'm in state too.

So excited for you guys! I just got my interview last week for January 11th! I'm OOS (from FL), but if accepted, I'll definitely end up here. Any advice on the interview? Are the questions pretty standard? Appreciate any feedback 🙂

Does anyone know of a Facebook group that has been created for our class?

For those of you who have yet to hear back, I have decided to decline my offer to Colorado so there will be another spot open for you guys. Good luck to you all!

Oh no I hope you hear from them soon! My stats... GPA/sGPA: 3.88/3.87, DAT AA/TS/PA/RC: 24/23/23/28. I also have been working in a dental office for 2 years now so I talked a lot about that experience in the interview. I interviewed in the morning!

Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could give me a timeline for their application to Colorado. I have yet to here from them. It has been a month since I they last emailed me about my application being under reviewed. Just wanted to see if it took everyone else this long... :/

I had my answer to you typed out, until I realized you are Pre-Pharm. 🙂 This is the dental thread. Colorado is a little bit notorious for acting later in the cycle for us too though, if that helps at all...good luck!

Has anyone else from the December 7 interview hear back from them yet? They seemed quite sure they would have decisions made and out to us by january 1st but I have yet to hear from them.

Thanks

They don't work on a deadline like that. Some people from Dec 7 have already been accepted, and some people from Dec 7 will be accepted between now and July. It would be nice if they gave everyone a decision one way or the other less than a month after interviewing, but unfortunately that is not the case.

Just received an interview invite! OOS February 3rd! I almost lost hope!
