Ok, I am basically at work trying to kill some time. 😎

My question is...
If you guys (hypothetically) did not want to go into medicine to become doctors, what would you rather be???

Add your name on to this list below!!

Sassy24673: I would rather be a hot CSI 😀

NASA Astronaut.

Hmm I think Interior Design.

A stay-at-home mom if it were fiscally possible. This is my true dream. Hell, that would win out over MD. But we live in the real world, so...

If I had to work, probably something else in the medical field.

If I cut out all things in the medical field I would probably either teach, or do some sort of counseling. Or some sort of planner or consultant would probably fit me well - I like organizing and planning.

in all honesty, if I was told by every medical school in the world that they would never accept me, I'd probably be a pharmacist or I'd complete school and get a PhD in something like immunology.

if we're just talking about what our "dream jobs" would be if it weren't medicine.. I've always wanted to be in the military.. maybe a pilot. I also wouldn't mind being a business owner, especially of restaurants.

social worker, or

would take out loans to open my own coffee shop, or

a sonographer... etc dreaming on

in all honesty, i just want this application cycle to be over🙁

classical french hornist, preferably playing in a wind ensemble

man, i was talented. gave all that up for science and med school. it's hard to be an "amateur" musician (outside of school). no groups to play with and no one takes you seriously. 🙁

A: A super hero

B: That chick on the travel channel that gets to go on vacation for a living and stay in all those awesome hotels.

C: Video game tester

If you exclude all things medical/biological science related...then an airline pilot.

I feel you. I played the Bass Clarinet and Violin for so long, up until college. Hmm...maybe I would be a hot CSI who played music on the side! Hey, who said we couldn't dream? 😍

Among the first of my assumptions to be felled by evidence was that career choice proceeds in adolescence by identifying one's most preferred options; it actually begins early in childhood as a taken-for-granted process of eliminating the least acceptable from further consideration. -- Linda Gottfredson

Was reading her on Edge yesterday; it came to mind.

Ive secretly always wanted to be a Marine. Dont know why...lol

international corporate lawyer. i just might....

if it really was a dream, and i could be anything? photojournalist😀

You know - they should totally ask this at med school interviews. Instead of "what would you do if you didn't get into medical school" - which most people interpret as "don't get in THIS YEAR." They should ask "if you could be ANYTHING in the world - money is no matter - what would you be" (which is basically what people are answering in this thread).

I think it probably says a lot about people - I am totally asking whoever I interview this year that!!!

Interior Designer..... or become a famous hairstylist

🙁 but the puppy mills and all the poor little animals that need adopting at shelters. Pet stores always make me sad.

Ditto.

I would be a midwife. If I wasn't doing anything related to health I would open a shelter for rescue dogs.

Midwives are awesome. Although I know a woman who is one, and while I have no problem with babies being born at home (although I think its a little risky) her clients also don't take their infants to the hospital for the basic blood tests for metabolic disorders. There are so many perfectly preventable illnesses that can be stopped if you catch them - but she's risking mental ******ation and a lot of other problems by not having these mothers check their babies out until there IS a problem - at which point its too late. I told her some things to read but I don't think I convinced her...

Better to ask it as "if you absolutely had to choose another career path, unrelated to medicine, money being no object, what would you do?" Otherwise, some people would still answer medicine (myself included).

You stole my answers! 🙂

Medically related: a RNP Midwife

Non-medically related: Marine Biologist (childhood dream) or run a doggie rescue group (though I'd end up with WAY too many dogs of my own)

I'd also like to be a pilot. I have a friend who got his pilots license after starting his career in medicine. (He built his own helipad in his backyard and bought a helicopter!!) I think I'd like to do the same. It'd be a blast.

No, wait. I've got it. I'd like to study the behavior of SQUIRRELS! I love squirrels. 😀

wedding planner or fire fighter or pilot cant decide between the three

1) Indy Race Car Driver
2) Auto Mechanic, only difference b/w heart surgeon and car mechanic is that surgeon's work while the engine is running and car mechanics dont, I think I can live with that. LOL (I wouldnt do this, I thought of joke I heard recently)

I would be a biomedical researcher if I couldn't be a Dr.

If I didn't do anything in science, I would probably have been a teacher or a minister.

CEO of some financial services company.

I'd be a writer. I mean, if I wouldn't be starving.

Other than that, probably a chef. Food is delicious.

married with kids and a certain someone....of course, im listening to Josh Groban's You Are Loved, so that kinda has me in a sappy mood...😀

A best selling author... although I want that to happen while being a doctor... I mean look at Willimam Carlos Williams...

Mythbuster.

Heck, I'd take any show on the Discovery Channel (except Crash Lab...that crap sucks).

a kept woman..lol. Driving around in my jaguar convertible that my hubby bought me for valentines day. A bit stressed because my personal shopper at Bergdorf's could not order the runway Christian Loubitan pumps that I adored in Vogue. Huff🙁. I never have to cook or clean..just look pretty in my perfect life. 🙄
