who else, like me, applied early with not-so-great grades/mcat scores in hopes that our punctuality will eventually pay off? sure, we get jealous seeing threads of others getting interviews, but at least we havent been rejected [...yet]. it's sure gettin' warm on the admissions' backburners!

so far, i've sent back 9 secondaries, am officially complete at 2 (DMU, AZCOM). in the process of completing 2 more secondaries to get sent out. havent heard back from NOVA and NYCOM yet, but got smacked in the face with a straight-up rejection from touro-nv.. oh well. still waiting for my august mcat score to come out too. anyways, i want to hear how you guys are all doing

Im starting to pretty much feel the same way. Applied way early, turned in almost all of my secondaries (except for Ohio..decided to withdraw), completed at all except MSU (still waiting on those university-specific forms to be filled out by my reccommenders)...all I have is 1 interview thus far at TUNCOM, and I got put on "HOLD" at DMU and my status at WVSOM is "Decision Deffered".
 
Me too;I interview at WVSOM 9/18, I m complete at AZCOM (hold) and KCOM (waiting for august MCAT). Now if I could only get my last LOR I could finish my apps for DMU, LECOM.
 
how "low" of stats are u talking. just wondering if i should be worried...

low enough that you havent got an interview yet, although you're complete at most places.

BTW- CuttinEmUp & medmom, you guys dont count-- you guys have got interviews :meanie:

well..just so u know, I also got put on "hold" with a smiliar oa GPA as yours, but a little higher science GPA, but also a very strong upward trend. My MCAT score was higher than their average accepted score, but considerably less than yours.

I spoke to the admiss. office, and apparentley it is indeed my GPA that is holding me from getting an interview right now. They are going to wait to see how competitive I am to the rest of the applicant pool as they receive more apps. So while I am not quite rejected, she said there is a chance that I will be invited to an interview pending another review of my app. later in the cycle. 👎 and to think I really liked DMU 🙁
 
I turned my stuff in very early also. I applied to 17 schools out of state, and like 5 schools in state (Texas). I have completed 10 secondaries. Anyways, I have gotten 3 rejections already, TUCOM-NV, TUCOM-CA, and COMP. I also have received 2 "we will see how your grades and MCAT go up" letters from VCOM and WVSOM. My stats are so bad I dont even wanna talk about it. Well at least my MCAT is bad, I retook tho in Aug. I have a 3.07 overall GPA and a 2.91 science GPA. I have a nice upward trend tho, last two semesters over 3.5 average each. I was really really hoping that turning it in early would get me an early interview, I just know if I can get one I will do awesome. It is just actually getting them to give me a chance I guess. 🙁

wow, im surprised you're on the backburner. i mean i understand the importance of GPA, but isn't the MCAT supposed to be the great equalizer, ie no cheating, grade inflation, etc? im getting really bummed out by what adcoms are telling me b/c my gpa is almost identical to yours and MCAT lower. i have lots of experience etc but they still can't seem to get over the gpa.

Yeah it sucks to be on the backburner

BUT

think about how many students end up being admitted in the Spring as the allopathic students parse out and people withdraw from the waitlist.

From the stories on SDN, I wouldn't lose hope on a school until the first day of orientation.

Hey guys, how do you know if you're on the backburner from AZCOM or CCOM? I'm hesitant to call their office because they seem to do everything through the "interact now" page. Been complete there since Aug 5. Guessing I was put on hold too. Good Luck people, chin up!:luck:
 
I bet at least 75% of the people that are posting on this forum will eventually get in this year, and probably 95% will get in eventually. Don't lose any sleep over it.
 
Hey, I have a 2.96 sci, and a 2.98 cum, 28M MCAT and I got an interview at TUCOM. There will be schools that look less at scores, and more at the overall person. Then, ther will be others that are more number focused. NYCOM and UNE haven't even begun their secondary process, so don't lose hope! Just b/c things haven't gone as smoothly as you would like so far doesn't mean it won't work out in the end.

that's great! which TUCOM--CA or NV?
 
Quick word of encouragement for those people on hold @ DMU...I know many people in my class (2009) that didn't interview until after the first of the year, myself included. I don't know how many were actually on hold, but last year we (Interviewers) were still regularly accepting students well into February.

Keep on keeping on...

i'm a nontrad (24 gonna be 25 in nov).. and as the thread starter, i have to take myself off the backburner list-- i got an invite to VCOM on sept 25 and am very excited about it 🙂.

anyways, good luck to everyone.. by no means do i believe i'm out of the water, and i'm astonished that i got an invite this early. however, i'm NOT counting chickens before they've hatched

just curious... when were you complete at VCOM? i am so impatient and VCOM is my 1st choice. i am constantly checking my email to see if i've heard from them.

i was complete on sept 1, got the call at sept 6. i'm excited/scared about the trip.. not nervous about the interview, just being up in blacksburg because i've never been.. i've been in SW virginia (my grandparents used to live in Marion, further south). anyways, i hate driving in areas that i'm not familiar with. i guess i'll have to pay the extra $10 at the car rental place and get GPS. 👍

I'm a non-trad - 28, business degree etc - i'm not officially on the backburner yet since i've only finished one 2ndary and i'm still waiting on the august mcats', but i'm here 🙂
