The Official June 21, 2014 MCAT thread

How's everyone holding up?

Did we drink beer, BBQ, and blow up small parts of our country to celebrate its independence this past weekend?

Cause I sure did. T'was glorious.

If the curve is preset, why does it take a month to score the MCAT? DAT kids get theirs that day, I'm confused.

Truly I have no bloody idea. Walking into this whole process I knew I'd need an even 33 to be remotely competitive. I was pulling low scores on the FLs (consistently 29 except on FL11 two days before the exam where I pulled a 32).

The most realistic prediction I could make is 9/11/12. I struggle big time with Physics but I didn't freak out too much during the test so hopefully I don't receive lower than a 9 on that bad boy.

How about you?

I think I probably got 10-11/8-10/9-11. So, 27-32. Predicted: I'd say either 10/9/10, 10/8/10, 11/9/10, 11/9/9.

What I'm /hoping/ for is 12/10/10 in PS/VR/BS. But I feel like I could've gotten anywhere from an 11 to a 15 on PS, god only knows in Verbal, and anywhere from an 8 to a 12 in BS. I think I'm going to make my boss check my scores for me, and give him rules as to what he can tell me. For instance, if I get <30, he'll tell me it's "bad", and then I can give myself some time to mentally deal. If it's 30-34, I'll get him to tell me "okay", and anything greater than 34 is good/great.

From May 8th I have a strong feeling they curved our PS upwards generously (it was brutal, everyone was sure they scored a 2 afterwards), bumped verbal up a notch, and nerfed BS down a bit. People generally felt that PS was brutal, verbal was verbal (minor complaints), and BS was very straight forward. From that experience I noticed my PS and verbal were bumped up a notch, while BS was nerfed; composite was right where my practice scores were.

In comparison to June 21st. People seem to feel that PS was fairly straight forward (which I would predict a more strict grading scheme), one passage in verbal seemed to consistently give people trouble (so perhaps a minor bump upwards), BS will almost certainly have a bump upwards. For myself, I'm hoping for a 7/12/8-10 (PS is my weak point).

Cheers. Go mow your lawns or something.

Feeling much better about my exam now and feel like I did good enough on the BS passages to make up for that horrendous ochem passage. Still hoping I pull off a 28 or higher but we'll see.

Thankfully I thought our verbal reasoning section was moderate so the curve won't kill us. That seems to be the section that causes people to score below average.

The consensus on July 2 is that the verbal was pretty straightforward... hopefully the curve isn't too harsh

I was so sure about everything 2 days after the exam, sure as I can remember every single damn line and my answer and confidence level etc. now I'm sure of nothing. 🙁 I am so hang up on one of the verbal question, it haunts me day and night...

I also don't want to submit the primary until I have my MCAT scores
Why not? It'll take at least 2 weeks to get it verified. It is recommended to submit with a random school and then you can start to be in the queue to get verified. You can then apply to any schools you want after the MCAT score is out. Adding schools can be done any time. Once you hit late July the verification can take 30-50 days according to the chart from the past years

Are scores for SURE coming out on the 22nd? I signed up for a re-take on the 25th and would really realllly not want to take that without knowing how i did on this past exam..

Hey guys, thought I'd chime in too...
These last weeks are going to go by brutally slow and I just want to see that score. At least I've had all these secondaries to keep me busy

We got this

Following this thread for my boyfriend...
After reading all of these posts, I feel so anxious lol! I really hope everyone does well!

Judging from the Jun 5th MCAT, FL AAMC has a very decent predict power. Especially the later ones 9-11. And people who feel okay immediately after the exam reported to have not-so-disaapointing score. Deep breath. I felt really okay after the exam, by okay I mean, I went over the entire test with a friend and in my head several times and there doesn't seem to be any disaster. There was 1 question on BS that I got wrong, but 1 question is not going to change my score too much...deep breath. why AAMC? too long to give out score.

I agree. Why couldn't they at least give us our raw scores?! 10 more days seems like forever.

Are you guys making different schools lists based on score scenarios—i.e. one list for 30-34, one for 34-38, etc? I don't know how to go about making a list with this huge question mark looming over my app. My primary should be verified right around the 22, so trying to plan ahead.

Stay strong, comrades!

I would say just apply to a bunch of mid tier schools based on your AAMC average. start to write for secondaries for the schools that you consider yourself a fit. Once you get your score, all you need is just to adjust that list by adding a few schools either on the top or on the bottom. Your MCAT score is a determining factor for sure, but your chance at medical schools also have a lot to do with other things. There might be adjustment needing to be made in light of a different score, but I doubt that it'll change your list entirely. Your current mid tier schools can become safeties schools if you get a higher score than expected, or they can become the reach schools if you scored lower. My primary is also going to be verified around the same time. (submitted 06/27) Writing for secondary is what I've been doing.
