PS :
Difficult as crap. Had alot of different topics I wasn't confident in, incorporated into topics I was even more weak in.
VR: Felt it was fair but severely messed up my timing which will def hurt my score.

BS: A couple of the passages were really dense. I did not find BS easy at all, but I suppose it was fair game.

Biochem:
Lmao! I was chuckling the whole time just thinking about the people who have to take the new mcat!

Sorry to say, but it's much more reassuring hearing others that had as difficult a time with PS as I did. So brutal! Somehow managed to pack a mini freak-out in that 10 minute break so I could focus on VR. VR was pretty standard, surprisingly not too dense, and BS was solid. Fingers crossed I never have to take this test again!

PS: what the ****ing ****?So unlike any practice test, came out of nowhere. On practice tests I was averaging 13/14 and finishing with 10 minutes left. I ran out of time on this one and had to guess on 2 or 3. Completely threw me off my game for the rest of the test.

VR: thought this was easy, interesting passages, have a feeling the curve will be brutal

BS: pretty easy. Was easy on the orgo.

PS and bio was kinda hard, bio had asome really dense genetics passage. I felt verbal passages were straight forward, but i think the curve in vr gonna be harsh
At least I wasn't the only one thinking bio was hard. I am scheduling an august exam in case I score anything <26

PS: Very calculation heavy. Didn't feel like any of the AAMCs at all except maybe 11 but even then I felt much better coming out of 11. Guessed on a lot more questions than usual, and some were even blind guesses. I averaged 14s on most of the AAMC PS and I have to say I am a bit worried about the PS today

VR: Pretty fair although I swear one of the passages had two sentences that straight contradicted each other and it threw me off a little bit

BS: Pretty easy and straightforward
I had the same verbal question. About mammals?

So much genetics....so much genetics lol...

PS was extremely difficult, unit analysis was a huge tool for me

Verbal is Verbal

Stick to your averages guys. It is MOST likely you scored according to your average. I had ABSOLUTE dread after my bio section (most April 24 MCATers did) but pulled out with an 11.

It's post test dread. Congrats to you guys, now go outside and enjoy your day after 3-4 months of sunlight deprivation. Get some vitamin D!

Oh yea, that trial section I gave it some solid effort, but if they were to scale it out of 15, I probably got a 4/5 and if I was a lucky guesser maybe an 8 or 7.

That test was brutal for me. I was calm, but that didn't really make it any easier! Guess you can't ever feel like you aced the mcat though?

PS - The questions were wordier than I expected 🙁 Making it harder to answer questions faster.
VR - never was good at this - should have skipped the hard passage when I realized I didn't understand any of it. Hoping for 7+...
BS - Wished I had time to double check my answers, but one of the passages tripped me up.

Overall... I wasn't sure if I wanted to void, but after all that hard work... I want to see a number. even if it's bad 😀

I thought PS was OK- kinda tough but not horrendous-hoping for a little luck on my guesses.

VR I found to be one of the most manageable VR sections out of any practice exam-very readable an the questions were relatively strait forward.

BS-it seems like its just me but I thought BS was just that-a bunch of BS. One of those passages was absurd, totally unreadable. That threw me off-timing wise and momentum wise. I felt like most of the topics covered were very low yield.

Overall it could have gone a lot better. I'm thinking (/hoping) for a 9/10 in PS, should have 10/11 in VR but I'm just praying that BS isn't below an 8 which it probably is. Probably retaking in Aug/Sept... There goes my summer...

Re-taker here.

PS: I don't know what you all are taking about. There were definitely some left-field calculation questions, but it was manageable. I finished the first two passages within ten minutes so I slowed down, which was a mistake. I had like three discretes left with less than two minutes which caused me to make quick guesses. It was on par with the AAMC practices.
VR: High readability. Which is great, but last time I took MCAT, I thought I did awesome on it, and hit the lower of my range. Had a minute and a half with the last question (which is surprising as I typically am short on time).
BS: This was dense. Didn't feel as good about it as last time, but don't feel bad about it. There was a passage that reminded me of the ebola one. Damn that passage to hell. Otherwise it was very doable (a little light on the orgo for my taste), but whatever.
Trial: Had biochem. LMAO at the some of the questions (passage-based and discrete). They weren't terribly difficult, but you couldn't half-ass it. Some of it was either you know it or you don't, no way of eliminating answers or anything. So glad I will not be needing to take 2015 MCAT (knock on wood).

Overall: Feel good about this. If I hit +/- 3 of my AAMC average, I will be happy.

Edit: Now that I come to think of it, someone walked out of the exam center right after finishing PS. Guess I just got lucky with the content presented playing to my strengths.

Edit II: Also I felt like there were some wordy questions which cut into time.

.

I do not envy whoever is taking this test next year, that sociology trial section one of the most dry tedious exams I've taken in a while

Oh thank god I am not the only one who thought that physical science section was rough. Verbal felt like aamc 11. Bio didnt really feel that bad.

Havent previous exam takers said their PS was super ridiculous but there was a generous curve that saved most of them?

...but the 5/31'ers said that the PS was pretty damn brutal. Seems like the AAMC takes turns on brutal sections. Some people have a super hard VR. Some people (my test) had super hard BS. I guess y'all have super hard PS. Maybe they do it by x amount of weeks/testing sessions lol

Also, question: so the scale/curve is predetermined correct? So even if we all fail the PS the scale won't change?

Honestly, how everyone else did on the non-experimental questions (questions that will count) won't have much of an affect on the overall score. Scale is probably somewhat predetermined, but I doubt relative performance will be significantly different than what AAMC expects.

Yeah i agree with verbal! That paragraph was the reason I tripped up on time I reread it like 10 times bc one of the questions was specific to that bit! Lol

Haha, you think there is a method to their madness? First time I took it, I thought PS was brutal, and my score reflected that relative to my performance on the practice AAMCs (scored almost 4 pts below what I was averaging on PS). Looking back, it felt difficult because I wasn't as prepared as I should've been. Otherwise, if you prepared appropriately (for the material that you did see), then you will likely be close to your average.

Most of the time, it's all in our heads.

I think it was the third one on mine. How much can I divulge without getting in trouble

PS really devastated me (I wish I'd had more time to recollect myself than just the 10-minute break), so I'm a little glad to hear you guys also felt like it was hard. I did feel like it heavily featured the material I was weaker on and very little material that I was strong on.

My timing was very off for Verbal and BS (usually I have time to spare and use it well to correct the questions I've marked, but this time I had zero extra time on both sections). I feel pretty bad about this test, because I feel like the difficulty of PS meant that I got tons of the supposed-to-be easy questions wrong too (in fact, I know I did, because I had to blindly guess on two and semi-knowingly guess on another 2, and during the 10-minute break, realized I'd gotten several of those wrong).

I also don't know what this mammals passage is.

What was your AAMC average if you dont mind me asking?
I got 28-31 from exams 5-9...constant upward trend with avg of 8s in PS...that first passage for me was brutal and I marked every question I wasn't sure about and when I went to review it was like 14 marked so I decided to help myself...the pain of getting a bad MCAT score is peanuts compared to voiding and going hard for one more month....I hope you did well!

Also how does the experimental problems in each passage work? They are randomly scattered or all at the end of each passage?
BTW not talking about the 2015 section, only the trial questions they say they put in sections

Aamc 7 and 8 are a complete game compared to today's test.....nooooo way are those practice exams representative of anything

Also, question: so the scale/curve is predetermined correct? So even if we all fail the PS the scale won't change?

It is predetermined. From my understanding questions are picked (randomly I think) from a large bank of questions and a raw score-scaled score conversation is determined based on the difficulty of the questions.

Anyway, about the test:

I'm a retaker. Took for the first time in march and got a 27 (11/6/10).

PS: Didn't think it was as hard as everyone is saying. I might have started off a little rocky and there were definitely some calculations that I just down-right didn't know how to do, but overall it didn't seem as ridiculous as others have posted. Hoping my score doesn't get any lower than my first attempt. Not so sure if that actually happened or not...

VR: As you can tell from my first score, this is my worst section. I think I did better this time around (basically had a panic attack during this section the first time I took it) but the curve might not be very generous. I am hoping for an 8.

BS: Pretty straight forward in my opinion. Not too much ochem which was a worry of mine before the exam. Was FLYING through this section until I got to the tough genetics that others have mentioned. Overall I thought it was fair. Hoping for an 11+.

Overall, feel better than the first time around. But you NEVER KNOW about these things. There are ALWAYS people who think they did really well and do below their average as well as people who think they bombed it and did really well... That said, REGARDLESS of how you think you did, expect the worst. There is no reason to get your hopes up thinking that you did well.

Best of luck to everyone. Enjoy the summer.

Hi! I'm new to the site, well not really, but I officially made an account so that I could comment on my MCAT experience today. So PS was horrible. Lots of calculations, little time. I found myself having to guess blindly on some questions. Verbal was manageable, though I had an issue with the historical passage because it was pretty dense and I didn't get much rest last night. I was kinda nodding off. Awkward. But bio was bio. The Orgo was kinda weird. Maybe it was just me though.

Also for those who guessed,

Are the correct answers equally proportional? I.e. 25% each abcd?

If you mean: is the likelihood of the answer choice being A, B, C, or D equal? Then probably yes.

If you mean: should my specific answers on my test among A, B, C, or D be equally distributed? Then no.

I feel you there. I didn't sleep well either a combination of MCATitis and my hamster running all night

There is absolutely no way of knowing. It could be the entire first passage. It could be the last passage. It could be a passage in the middle. It could be only one question for a set of questions in a passage. It could be discretes. It could be absolutely any combination. Any question could be experimental. You just assume everything counts towards your score.
