Does anyone know how we're supposed to approach the financial aid situation?
Ok so I found out the answer to my own question and I will answer for anyone else that's having the same questions/problem.
Here are the steps to approach getting financial aid:
1. Do your FAFSA (it will take the school a couple days to process) -
www.fafsa.ed.gov
2. Go to sharklink.nova.edu and log in using your username and password
3. Click on "Student" tab
4. In the middle column there is a box called "Financial Aid" under this click on "My Financial Aid"
5. Click on "Eligibility" and it will take you to a page where you will then click "Student Requirements"
6. You will pick the year that applies for aid (2013-2014 School year)
7. Listed here is what all needs to be done for aid - since I had never borrowed before I had to do the loan entrance interview (visit this website to do it using your pin and password :
https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action )
8. Once the entrance interview is verified by the school they will then put up a requirement for you to do the Nova Authorization form and Direct Loan Master Promissory Note
9. Once this is verified they will send you an award for the Direct Unsubsidized loan - amounts vary I think - I received ~$57k
10. More than likely you will need more than the Direct Unsubsidized loan and you will need to apply for a Direct PLUS Loan and do a separate MPN for that one (use the same website as listed in step #7).
11. To accept, decline, or reduce the Direct Unsubsidized loan you can do so using steps #2-4 then go to "Award"
Hope this helps
🙂 Wish I would have had more help in the beginning but I guess you learn more by doing! Oh and there is a financial aid site for Nova students including the different scholarships available (
