****The Official Nova Class of 2017 Acceptance Thread****

Does anyone know how we're supposed to approach the financial aid situation?

I second that question.

Do you mean how do you get started? First you need to fill out a FAFSA at fafsa.gov

Then you can apply for the graudate plus loans as well because the initial offer you get for the Stafford unsubsidized loans won't cover everything.

If you guys are asking how much we should ask for then I don't know either! When I got my financial aid offer it said the estimated cost of attendance for year 1 would be 109,000!
I can't figure out why we need so much money!

Anyone else care to chime in? I'm trying to figure out how much I should request for a graduate plus loan.

This is all done through webstar right?

As far as $109K, best I can come up with is this:
$51K for tuition and fees
$14K for instruments (hand pieces aren't cheap!)
$21K for living expenses (their average, hopefully a little less)
Then there is insurance (they factor in you buying theirs), transportation (not sure if that is in the living expenses quote), a laptop, scrubs etc. Puts you real close to $100K the first year, and then closer to $80K for later years.

Hello guys!! i'm soo excited to begin this amazing career!!
I have a few questions...
- do we start orientation july 31 or August 6? ( the orientation schedule says one date and another paper says the other)
-once we have completed our background check and immunizations, do we have to pay any fee or does it simply get submitted on its own?
- do we have to send via mail the complete 2 page vaccination form? The system is not allowing me to upload it.

Thanks in advance!

Also, does anyone know how we can include the henry schein costs into our loan? Who and when can we do this? I dont want to pay them interest over the instruments.

From what I have seen online and on fb (in the group) we start orientation the 5th or 6th. The one where I saw the July 31st orientation was for the entering class of 2012. I just got added to the CDM class of 2017 on sharklink as I'm sure all of you did too and it said orientation stuff will be posted soon on there.

As for the background check and immunization stuff, I'm not sure as I've had problems with ranges for my titers and other stuff so I'm still not done yet. I checked in the emails and Nova said to do our background check & immunization stuff through that certifiedprofile thing so I don't think we have to send anything in but not sure.

As for the 2 page vaccination form I uploaded the pages showing when I received my vaccinations for each category (So I uploaded it like 5 different times and it was sufficient). I'm going to call sometime this week so I can find out for sure - Ill post on here too 😉

What are the Henry Schein costs?

I don't know if you guys already know this but Nova said their class is full and the waitlist has also been determined. I was told that if I have not been contacted for an acceptance or waitlist spot already then I should expect a rejection.

Thank you for posting your input. Just curious though, who told you this?

Nevermind, I figured it out. Not sure how you can include the cost in your loan without paying interest on it though...

Btw, the estimated cost of year 1 that shows up on your financial aid offer page includes the cost of instruments.

I'm not sure what her name was. When I asked she told me to hold on while she asked someone who would know and when she came back that's what I was told.

Thanks for your reply!! I think we start in august. You are totally right, i think that the form i was looking at has dates from previous years and they forgot to update that part.

I was told by a student a while ago that we are able to include henry scheins fee into our main loan. I just dont know how to do it. I didnt mean to say that i didnt want to pay interest, what i meant to say is that i dont want to pay henry schein's interest. I'd rather have this fee included in my loan. Otherwise, we have to pay monthly to henry schein while we are in school. I dont want to pay interest over interest, you know what i mean?😕

Anyone done the medical insurance waiver yet? I tried to do it today, but I got an error saying I couldn't at this time. Saw on an instruction page that you need to have registered for classes to do the waiver. Any idea when we register?

As for the Henry Schein costs, I think you might need to take out a private loan for those I don't think the federal unsubsidized loans cover all of it. Still in the dark on all of this, so much to figure out lol.

I read somewhere that registration will take place July 1st-August 4th. I'm not sure how we'll be doing that yet but they'll prob send us info on that later. Did you guys request a certain amount for the Direct Plus Loan or what? I'm a little unsure of exactly how much to take out since I'm not paying for housing. Hmmm. So much to figure out before school starts! Ahhh

So I just received a reply on the certified background health immunization forms and stuff. Brittney replied that all we have to do is submit the information through the website and when every section is completed then you are good to go - no mailing it to the school and no fee. :naughty:

Does anyone know how we're supposed to approach the financial aid situation?

Ok so I found out the answer to my own question and I will answer for anyone else that's having the same questions/problem.

Here are the steps to approach getting financial aid:

1. Do your FAFSA (it will take the school a couple days to process) - www.fafsa.ed.gov
2. Go to sharklink.nova.edu and log in using your username and password
3. Click on "Student" tab
4. In the middle column there is a box called "Financial Aid" under this click on "My Financial Aid"
5. Click on "Eligibility" and it will take you to a page where you will then click "Student Requirements"
6. You will pick the year that applies for aid (2013-2014 School year)
7. Listed here is what all needs to be done for aid - since I had never borrowed before I had to do the loan entrance interview (visit this website to do it using your pin and password : https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action )
8. Once the entrance interview is verified by the school they will then put up a requirement for you to do the Nova Authorization form and Direct Loan Master Promissory Note
9. Once this is verified they will send you an award for the Direct Unsubsidized loan - amounts vary I think - I received ~$57k
10. More than likely you will need more than the Direct Unsubsidized loan and you will need to apply for a Direct PLUS Loan and do a separate MPN for that one (use the same website as listed in step #7).
11. To accept, decline, or reduce the Direct Unsubsidized loan you can do so using steps #2-4 then go to "Award"

Hope this helps 🙂 Wish I would have had more help in the beginning but I guess you learn more by doing! Oh and there is a financial aid site for Nova students including the different scholarships available ( http://www.nova.edu/financialaid/index.html )

Omg guys got the call today! Feeling so blessed!! I cant believe im typing this lol

Thank you.
Any suggestions about what to do now to speed up the matriculation process?

FAFSA, immunizations, background check, FL residency (if applicable), class registration, insurance waiver (if applicable), email set up, loan forms, MPN through studentloans.gov.

That's about it I think. You'll get it all in emails, and they have checklists online too. Good luck, it's a beast to complete it all, but just stay on top of it.

Lunch, tour, interview. Interview only lasted 30 minutes and was definitely the most enjoyable of any I had!

are the interviews with current students or faculties? Also do they ask any unusual questions ? and it is an individual interview correct?

thanks.

You interview with the faculty, one on one. Very straightforward and conversational.
