Question everyone - if we get an interview invitation, is it in our best interest to book one as early as possible?
i.e. the earlier = the better our chances??

I don't think that matters as much when you're talking about different days within the same week. If you're talking about months, sure there's probably a difference in likelihood of receiving an offer of acceptance.
 
Does anyone know if the adcom is still reviewing the applications
and invite for the interviews?

I think they've thrown out all applications and went on vacation. I heard they're in Mexico!

Yes, they're still reviewing applications. They have a very long interview process.

are they still sending out interview invitations? I haven't heard anything from them since I submitted my application, and I sent out acdemic update in late december (all As), but since then, still nothing from them, not even a rejection letter and such.

They are still sending out interview invites; they schedule up to 2 weeks in advance and interview through March I believe.
 
I interviewed the 5th and haven't heard anything. I really hope I don't get waitlisted 🙁

I stayed at the Carlton and got a double for $135, but had to pay $60 to park the car overnight.

You guys got a good deal!! Mine was $350 at hotel 32|32!! And it was awful. Although I had the interview in September maybe that's why.. Lol

I got the email at 12 pm. I'm actually from nyc but I don't think it matters that much. My interviewer actually told me that I did really well after the interview but since it's been two weeks, I was starting to get pretty worried. Good luck to everyone else!

Use airbnb, I paid 160$ for two nights lol. And the school was a 2 minute walk from the house.
 
I have an interview at NYU next week but out of curiosity, how are people planning on paying for the tuition? It scares me when I take into consideration of both the tuition and living costs for 4 years...

I have looked into this a lot because I am also worried about my financial future.

Traditional repayment for 10 years may be too difficult for such a high amount of debt, but you can choose the 15 year or 30 year plans. If you are doing the traditional route, you should consolidate your loans to get a much lower interest rate.

There is the PAYE program which is income based repayment for 20 years. It is 10% of your disposable income for 20 years and after the 20 years you are taxed on the amount that is forgiven which will be close 800,000-1,000,000 depending on how much you borrow. Overall you pay a good amount more than the traditional 10 year payment plan but less than the 30 year repayment plan. I have a feeling a lot of people will choose this plan in the future.

We don't know how much we will make in the future. The earlier you set up a private practice, the earlier you can increase your potential income. A lot of new grads tend to go down south where the pay is much better. Of course, you will have to do a lot more work to get that money because it would be based on production.

With all do respect, I think someone who is two years removed from dental and working to pay off the debt is better served for answering that question lol

True. In all honesty their tuition isn't that much different than other private schools (like in Boston and Maine). I think it's the cost of living that people really need to consider

Ditto that. And don't go back too far, when tuition was a fraction of what it currently is.

Maine and Boston are also up there for the most expensive in the country. If I'm not mistaken, I believe nyu the 2nd or so in terms of total cost, and significantly more than any public school and most private schools. Point being, if you get into your state school, or have the option of going to a cheaper private school that will save you significant amounts of money, go there. If you're choosing based on the possibility of specialization, you can specialize coming out of any university, just finish at the top of your class
