I have a lot of essays piling up, both my own and other peoples. I need to be put on "temporarily unavailable".
 
I can volunteer to read any personal statements. I have a lot of time on my hands right now. PM me if you want me to read your personal statement and give you suggestions on what i think about your essay. 🙂

Will reply you within 1-2 days.

About me: I was accepted as an MSTP (MD/PhD) student during the last application cycle. I have experience writing grants and scientific papers, and have been told by several interviewers that my own PS was "moving and powerful". When I applied last year, I had the added pressure of a fairly late application and a lower then average MCAT score, so I believe that I can understand applicants who are in a similar position and help them focus attention to themselves in a positive way. I can read for content, flow, and grammar (I am a bit obsessive about grammar and punctuation...)

Thank you everybody for volunteering to read personal statements. I think you guys are awesome. But I was wondering if anybody can read mine. I haven't gotten very much responses and would like to work on and finish my ps as soon as possible. I think mine is almost done but just need a little looking over.

Like the above poster, I think it's great that so many people are willing to help out with PS's. I to PM someone just out of the blue, but if anyone has some free time today or tomorrow and wouldn't mind looking over my PS, I'd be really grateful. It should be done, but I just want another opinion or two to make sure my points are getting across. Grammar should all be correct. Thanks!
 
I have some free time on my hands since I've submitted my AMCAS and would be willing to read over PSs. I'm very good with grammar/structure (after being indoctrinated with it throughout elementary/high school) and noting when ideas need to be clarified.

I'm am temporarily unavailable, as my internet is down until thursday and can't spend all my time at the internet cafe.
 
i have a lot of free time right now, and id be happy to spend some of that time reading ps. about me--i chose to pursue an mph before medical school and applied to md programs while completing the mph. although i had difficult stats (low gpa / high mcat), i was accepted first time to some great schools (yay!). i think it was my ps that helped make a difference in my application.

I have not been replying to personal statements for the past few days because i am not at home. I have been hospitalised for 3 days. I also don't know what is that "allergen" which has caused me to suffer from a severe asthma attack. Make me cough until i vomitted and i have been unconscious. Was intubated the first time and it sucks! 👎

Why i have been hospitalised for 3 days instead of lesser is because 15 minutes after the nebuliser treatment, i was back with another asthma attack again. Have been like this for 12 times. As you know, after so many times of nebuliser treatment, i was shaking so hard. Prednisolone also didn't work well on me. It was until they gave me Xolair (3 times) before i can get back on my feet and leave that hospital without having another asthma attack. WTH is wrong with me. 😡😡😡🙁🙁🙁

That's so terrible! I am hoping you are feeling better soon. If you need to take a break from reading PSs (perfectly understandable!), just let me know and I'll move you to the temporarily unavailable list.

I'd be willing to help out with reading personal statements and secondary essays. I am currently in medical school and have lots of experience with editing my own med school essays as well as helping friends with their own personal statements. However, I'm better at looking for content/style rather than specific grammatical errors.
 
I've PMed 3-4 different people for PS help and haven't heard anything back. Is there anyone who might be able to read my PS for primarily grammar corrections? Thanks.

I don't mind reading a few. I'd say I'm a good writer. I've achieved the highest mark in the class when I took an essay writing and rhetoric course.

I would love someone to read my personal statement. I am a nontraditional applicant who needs to explain somewhat sporadic college grades and what Ive done with the five years since graduation. This was the second time for me to stay in the hospital for more than 3 days. I was having another asthma episode (i also don't know why and i am VERY fustrated with it now!). I am soooo sorry to the remaining PS owners for taking sooooo long to comment on your essays. 😳 I am waiting for the day when my asthma will finally get hold of me and kill me.
:cry: :cry: Why me??!! I have been following my asthma plan very closely and have been put on all asthma medications but nothing seemed to work well. So far, no one understands my feelings. 👎 🙁

I am so sorry that you are having such a difficult time with your asthma. I hope that you are feeling much better soon. The SDN community greatly appreciates all of the time and effort you have donated in editing personal statements. Thank you for all of your hard work.

Your last post in this thread stated that you were"OFFICIALLY to read and comment on your statements," so I had added you back to the regular list. I should probably add myself here since I have used so many of you guys for help. Anyways, I am a non-traditional student, with an unusual background and I majored in English. (YAY!) I have a great way of turning introductions and conclusions into creative pieces. I can also check spelling and grammer. I will help out for a little while to 'pay it forward.' Contact: PM.
 
I'm applying to med school right now, and I know I got a late start on my application, so I want to finish it up ASAP. But I don't want to send in a sub-par application just because I'm rushing things, so I definitely want to revise my personal statement until its great.

I'll take a look if you want. I am only a premed myself, but recieved a lot of help with my PS from several doctor, advisors, and my favorite genetics professor - so maybe I can pass what I learned onto you.

If nobody can review, they should all be changed to temporary unavailable. I understand they are doing us a favor, but it does me no good and actually hurts me if I'm just left hanging without even a response
