****The Official UCSF Class of 2017 Interview/Acceptance Thread****

Nice, I am going on the 5th as well but I am staying with family friends

I just received an interview invite for November 5th. Is anyone interviewing the same day. PM me if you plan to share a hotel and taxi to the interview.

Hello there. By any chance are there still any pre-Dec dates available?

Would anyone care to share their interview experiences at UCSF? I'm very excited to get to see the school!

Very relaxed interview, no worries at all, just conversational. First you enter the lobby, then get taken to a conference room where you get your picture taken, couple presentations including dean, then tour, then lunch, then interviews, then presentations, then done! Overall very good day and san fran is one of the most beautiful locations I've visited during my interview travels. UCSF was one of my top choices coming in, and after the interview I like it even more.

I got an interview invitation on Monday! 8th invite. it's for this Friday, I know they had more dates but I didn't ask to hear them because Friday worked for my schedule and I was so excited to get the call haha. I think they had some last minute cancellations due to the weather and I'm local so perhaps that's why I was called so last minute. Either way I'm very excited to go!

I'd like to remain incognito. But I got an interview invitation! 🙂 Scheduled for sometime this month. My username might hint at how much this school means to me. I am not a reapplicant, regardless of what my username might suggest.

Thanks! Do you have any recommendations for places to stay?

i stayed in staybridge suites in san bruno (they have an aiport shuttle).
it comes with a kitchen, separate bedroom, and living room. I highly recommend it!

courtyard airport in san bruno is average. staybridge is way better and cheaper!

u need to take the cab to the school and it cost like 50-65 one way.

Just got a call for an interview tomorrow! Someone else cancelled... shortest notice for an interview ever hahah

Wow, 24 hr notice. You must live close-by. Someone suffering from East Coast's hurricane Sandy must have cancelled. Congrats!

Thanks! Yep I live like 15 minutes away. But if someone was affected by Sandy they wouldn't have waited until THE DAY BEFORE the interview to cancel right? Oh well anyway I'm excited!

I think you got my girlfriend's spot haha. She got a call earlier today around 3 PM and they invited her to attend the interview tomorrow. At first she said yes, but realized it would be quite difficult since she has to drive to UNLV for interview on Friday so she rescheduled. nonetheless, goodluck!

Haha yay for twice handed down interview spots! Got the call right after 3 so you're probably right. Thanks and good luck to your gf too!

Hey guys so I just interviewed at UCSF 11/5 I was wondering how crucial the writing assignment is? my interviews went really well, but the writing assignment I felt I could have done better :/. does anyone know how important that is in the admission process?

thanks in advance

Anyone know how crucial the writing assignment is?

very crucial. everybody they interview has great resume. they want to see how well you can connect with someone who knows nothing about you and also if your PS was just edited like crazy or if you can actually express your thoughts coherently

I think in a nutshell, they just want to make sure that your writing is consistent with your PS & that it was really you who wrote it.

But I feel like an essay that you spend months planning, writing, and editing will definitely look different than one that you had to write under pressure in half an hour. But I'm sure that it won't make or break your application either way, as long as you didn't leave it blank or wrote something terribly inappropriate or something.

My advice to anyone else who is out-of-state and interviewing for post-December is to get into Cali at least a day early. Do not take an exam the day before the interview and end up arriving in Cali 11 hrs. before the interview and waking up at 5 in the morning due to your stupid circadian rhythm and pre-interview stress. You will be half asleep at the interview and you can guess what kind of interview nightmare that'll end up being. :smack:

So I interviewed at UCSF and my portal changed from Invited for Interview back to recieved / under review.. any one else have this?

So I interviewed at UCSF and my portal changed from Invited for Interview back to recieved / under review.. any one else have this?

i interviewed in mid october and it still says Invited for interview

I interviewed at the beginning of this month, and my status never changed to "Invited for Interview". However, 2 weeks ago, the date changed, but it still said "Received/Under Review"...not sure what's going on or what that means...hopefully it's just nothing

Does anyone know what the acceptance rate is for those who interview? Thanks in advance.

I just got an interview today for 1/14/13, I am SO excited guys and I feel very fortunate to have received an interview with my stats. I respect UCSF because I feel like they actually take a look at the applicant as a whole, not just the stats..

Do you guys think that Jan 14th is a pretty late date to interview? My friend is attending UCSF dental currently as a 1st year student, and he said that a good number of his classmates interviewed in January, so this should give us a little more confidence about a potential acceptance even though it is a post dec interview.

Does anyone have the ADA guide to dental school stats on # applied, in state vs out of state interview invitation and acceptances? I'd really appreciate the numbers if someone has them, Doc toothache's spreadsheet is formatted weird in my computer for some reason and isn't very easy to read.

WOW CONGRATS! by any chance are you URM?

RSalha17, you have some amazing interviews in that lineup!!! I'm wondering if you put together an amazing app, had a standout essay or received amazing LORs? (I'm just looking for ideas on where to ramp up my app if I have to reapply next year and our numerical stats are about the same). Congrats on your interviews and best of luck!!! 🙂

they interview 250 students for 88 seats.

But they probably accept more than 88 to get 88 people to enroll...right? So I am guessing around 125 which seems about right.

Yes, all dental schools eventually send more acceptances than there are seats. People are inevitably going to decline acceptances.
Their website says they send 120 original acceptances.

Hey,

I saw that website a while ago as well, and I assumed the same thing you did--that they send out 120 acceptances. I know that's not an assumption, and is a fact, but the assumption I think you made (which I made earlier) was that they accept 120 on the first day. I feel that's incorrect and that they accept 120 TOTAL (in the entire interview process). I'm sorry if I'm repeating what you were saying, but I literally mulled over this website for an hour, a few weeks ago.

Therefore, I don't even think they'll be making 88 offers on Dec. 3rd. If anything, I think they'll do about 2/3. Whatever the number of acceptances they make, I realllyyyyyy hope I'm one of them! :xf:

I totally see what you mean. Then the probability of acceptance pre-Dec. is <<0.50, maybe a more realistic number is. 0.33.

I think at my interview they said they accept around 60 people on Dec 3rd?

On the AADSAS portal under Supplemental Materials, the UCSF section says:
Category: Application Fee
Status: Not Received

:S Does anyone else have that? It says it was updated on 11/8, which is the day I interviewed. What does this mean? I obviously already paid the supplemental fee when I submitted the supplemental app. Also on the School Decisions page my UCSF status never changed from Received/Under Review.

why are you worrying about this when u have already interviewed and paid?

Hahah I know I probably shouldn't worry about it, but I just noticed it today and wanted to make sure everything's still ok. It just doesn't make sense why it's there and wanted to know if other people see it on AADSAS too.

Thanks a lot! I don't think my science letters of rec were that amazing but I did get a really good rec from a dentist (she traveled to panama with us and i spent a week with her working side by side and translating) and I actually got a letter of rec from the President of our university. I work for him as an intern and he submitted a very strong letter of rec for me, so I have to think that helped a lot. Not to toot my own horn but I think I have a really unique and attention grabbing personal statement. I can help you out with yours if you need it or send you the first paragraph of mine if you want to get an idea of what it sounded like, but i cant help but think that helped me out a lot.

and NO I AM NOT A URM. haha i don't know how many times ive had to answer this question.

also, about the acceptances post dec. You have to think about how many people actually accept their offers of acceptance. So if they send out 65 pre-dec, do you think they get about 45-50 acceptances back? So that leaves about 35-40 spots for post-dec interviews?
