The bad news for OOS is that avg BCP GPA is about 3.7/3.8, avg AA on DAT is 21, and avg interview score is 8.9/9.0. Also, these scores are trending up b/c of increasing numbers of OOS applicants each cycle.
The good news is that in the very near future (possibly next cycle) the seats will go up to 100 from 81. I'm not sure how many of those will be OOS, but I would imagine some portion would be.
I saw all of this on Dr. Wilder's presentation, so it's from memory but if someone wrote it down then please add your own info.

I guess there will be no invite for me.... wah wah

I'm above those averages, but I still haven't heard from the school. If it's true that more OOS interviews are done in the first two sessions, then things aren't looking good for me. And UNC was my top choice!

I interviewed last year on the last interview date (Jan 7) and there were a lot of OOS applicants there. Don't stress too bad!

Exactly! It's not over til it's over. And once you get an interview the stats become much less important.

And I was there on 10-13. I'm pretty sure it is my top choice now, I was really impressed by the entire interview process.

I was there as well. I left happy. Low stress. They did a good job.

Hey, guys! I don't want to hijack a thread where you're all sharing the happy news about receiving interview invites and/or your interviews going well, but I was wondering if you could all give me some insight as to what your interviews were like. UNC and ECU are my top choices next year (in-state tuition, oh yeah!), and I'm really nervous about the interview because I know UNC values it so highly. Was it relaxed, or were the questions some real "thinkers?" I don't think I really have any gaping holes in my application for them to grill me about per se, but still, I've had some tough interview experiences in the past and am a little gun-shy. Any thoughts or advice would be VERY appreciated! Congratulations to you all!

And, if this is an inappropriate place to ask this question, I'll happily ask elsewhere. 🙂

Ill be happy to answer this question if I get accepted this cycle
🙂. Wouldn't want to give my competition an advantage.

Same here. I guess I'll just hope for a January Interview!

So to clarify, are there no more pre-Dec OOS interviews at UNC? Or is there still one more interview date before the one in January?

I'm also above the averages listed above and have yet to hear back :/

They have a november interview date too i think. Invites will prob go out soon.

yeah. one more interview before Dec. and that is Nov. 10th.

usually the 3 week before deal would put it on todays date that they go out.

i received an interview from them once at like 4:58pm.

so who knows!

hoping for good news.

The numeric aspects of the application are not the only factors that go into an interview invite. Essays, letters of rec, and the entirety of the application are evaluated for a potential fit.

You'll see that across the app spectrum (and later, when applying for specialties), there's never a direct correlation between app and interviews.

Good luck!

Status changed into "Received/Under Review" Is this means they already made the decision but they just don't want tell us until december?

Hey I interviewed october 13th too and my status was changed to received/under review again... maybe everyone's status who has already interviewed gets that. I feel like they have a good idea of who they want but it says on the admissions website timeline that the selection meeting is in december so right before acceptance day.

I think they will give your interview score right after the interview, then they will have selection meeting at December? Is this means they will send out admission later than december 3rd (Monday)?

Last year they send out admission on december 1 (thursday)

Yea I remember them saying that. In the presentation they said that 2/3 are accepted on december 3rd throughout the day and the remainder 1/3 are before Feb 1st

They changed mine to under review again, it's a different status defined though.....But I mean, it is under review again if you think about it.

Their website says they have the decision meeting in Dec.

Does your status defined say something like this now that you interviewed too:

Your application is currently in the process of being reviewed. It will proceed through a multileveled review in which we consider such factors as your GPA, academic history, DAT scores, letters of evaluation/recommendation, investigation in the field of dentistry and all other factors presented in your application.

Yep.

Have anyone heard back for the November interview invite yet? 😕

No. Decisions aren't made till later.

I got an email today at 9:30 for an interview invite, yippee!!! 🙂

Sounds good ToothfairyNC! Congrats to you too! I am planning on going to the pizza social too!

Nov. 10th interview, woohoo! Heard great things about the school and the area.

Now what on earth is this 'interview score' y'all are talking about?

They grade you on a scale of 7-9 after your interviews are done. It's very subjective but Dr. Wilder said it isn't set in stone like the DAT or GPA.

He said the average of interview grade for out state enrollees is 9, and 8.5 for in state.

HEEEEELLLLPPPPPP!!

I have an interview on the 10th. All hotels are booked. No hotels are walking distance. Anyone want to split a room or a rental car/taxi to this interview?

If all else fails, let me know what UNC buildings that I can enter are open 24/7.

Much thanks!

Even the expensive ones are booked, like the Carolina Inn? I'm familiar with the area and if everything is booked, just get a room in Durham. You'll need a cab but you won't be more than 20 minutes away. There are plenty of hotels near the Southpoint mall.

Hey Glimmer1991,

Yeah Carolina Inn says that no rooms are available for the night of the 9th.

What has me worried about staying further away is that I am relying on public transit to get around - and the school recommends arriving at 7:30AM. But thanks for the lead about Southpoint mall area. Maybe a bus connects that and the school...

Honestly, worst case scenario you could stay on Raleigh and leave reallllly early in the morning. It only like a 30-40 minute drive unless traffic is bad. So if you left at like 6:30 you would get to UNC on time.
But I agree that Durham would be your best bet if you can do that.

I'm trying not to drive...

The good news is I found a place to stay, right next to the school! Airbnb was the source. Very cool business model they have going.

Thank you for the advice though : )!

I've interviewed. Was a good experience. How do I learn what my interview grade is?

I think we will not able to get those grades, when was the UNC send out admissions? Dec.3 this year? I think they will have a selection meeting on december?

Wow, so close. UNC is competitive but I'm holding out on some good vibrations until Monday (cue the Marky Mark).

is UNC done filling up january interviewing spots?

Hey when I was at my ECU interview, I asked another girl where she got her interview and she said that she has an interview at UNC in January so that may mean that they already gave it out already because I know they usually send out all the notifications on the same day. But there is still hope if someone drops out of the January interview and a spot opens up.

Or maybe the girl could be lying. idk

damn it

Has anyone read about them handing out January interviews? I feel like there would be more posts on here about people getting the interview. Also, for their first 3 rounds, the interview invites were sent out about 3 weeks in advance.

I am 95% sure they haven't given out Jan interviews. I agree, it would be a buzz on here.

Hey all, just wanted to pop in and say good luck to all prospective candidates! I'm a 3rd year at UNC, probably met a lot of you on interview day. If anyone has any questions, especially during this time of the year when acceptances begin rolling out or regarding UNC the program, clinic, area, or in general, just ask.... I'll do my best to answer, although this next week is busy... 5 finals..... better get to studying and not waste time on here.... 😡

Probably a good choice honestly, they have been less than impressive. Well anyway, best of luck on your finals and what not in the coming weeks!
