**** The Official UoP Class of 2017 Interview/Acceptance Thread ****

Really tough decision here...I was placed in the bottom group. I heard that if I wait a year that I would get in for the following class (which I would be willing to do). However, when I spoke to Torri, she told me that they don't guarantee anything. I don't know if I should pay my deposit at ASDOH (just accepted today) or wait the year...:scared:😕

if u had to wait a year, u would still graduate on time if u went to ASDOH... why apply to ASDOH (and get accepted) when you're gonna wait an extra year for UOP?

ASDOH took a chance on you and UOP hasn't yet. think about it

It's hard because I'm from the bay and UOP has been my dream for many years. I'm also a third time applicant. It would be a great place for me to be because I'll be close to home and it's the greatest school in the country

Well it sounds like your decision has been made and you are just looking for some support for your decision... Opinions are only opinions, and everybody has theirs, so go with yours!

I'm not sure if it was just hearsay, but isn't it true that if you're waistlisted at UOP, and you reapply the following year, you're guaranteed acceptance?

No I haven't made my decision. Like I said, I was told I can't be guaranteed anything so it makes it very difficult for me to decide on what to do. I was told that 17/19 students who waited last year got in.

dude ur a third time applicant.... just saying

Torri told me they will likely not get beyond the first quartile this cycle.

If they told you that they can't guarantee anything... well, that's pretty scary to hear as an applicant. I remember at the interview they said they "work" with applicants to get them in the following cycle, so maybe that's their way of not having to commit to anything. Honestly- I do love this school, but I am not going to wait for UoP. I was not placed in the top quartile, nor was I at the bottom. If I could hear myself saying this now, back when I applied, I would be in complete disbelief. UoP has been my dream for many years. I always thought I would wait that extra year. But now that I have an acceptance elsewhere, I weigh the odds of trying to get in next year and I just don't want to gamble it. I'm almost 28, CWRU (also an awesome school) has decided that I am worth their time (a huge point, to reference aznboi), and I just don't want to wait anymore. I am super excited to start the next phase of my life. I cannot imagine going through this admissions process again, it was emotionally grueling to say in the least. It's still technically not over because in addition to UoP, I'm on 2 other wait lists.

I have to tell you, there were two schools I really wanted to hear from this cycle that I did not get interviews with: Columbia (duh, don't have the scores) and ASDOH (I DO have the volunteer hours so I was surprised here). ASDOH is such an amazing school and I feel it will be an amazing opportunity. I just personally cannot fathom delaying my life any further, nor taking a HUGE chance on re-applying without any guarantees.

Think about it this way- you can always do an externship at UoP (if they allow that?) or do a specialty residency after you graduate from ASDOH (ortho, omfs). Ultimately, I believe it's the student that makes the school, not the other way around. I think you have an excellent "back-up" and I would be so thrilled to go to ASDOH. 🙂

Just don't let the "dream" prevent you from living your life. Best of luck to you! 🙂

You can PM me if you want.

Actually a first year at uop right now. Was actually on the waitlist last year and got in 10 days before orientation started last year. I even sent in my application for the next cycle on June 1. Crazy ride but there's def still hope. Good luck guys hope to see you in July 🙂

Very well said. I commend you on your optimism and mindet.

Best of luck in your dental school endeavors. With that mentality, you will be successful at anything you do in life, not just dental school.

Side note - to say that the application process is emotionally grueling is spot on. Would never want to go through this again. You should be thankfully a school wants you. Make the most of it. 🙂

it's not as great as people really think it is, its just SDN blows everything up out of proportions

there are more great programs throughout the country.

I actually completely disagree on this one. While its true that there are many great dental schools in the country. UoP is an amazing school, and it think that they have earned the reputation they have. Like many people, I always wanted to go to UoP. I interviewed in march, and my desire was strongly reinforced. Everything about the school was impressive. Far beyond anything I experienced at other dental schools. The ONLY thing that is unappealing is the price tag. It goes beyond just tuition. Living in san fran is ridiculous, and the money piles up. Ultimately that was the only thing that turned me away. As far as the school goes though.. its incredible and I believe it is just as good if not better than people think.

I slightly agree with both of you here. I believe that UOP is definitely the best program in the country. With that being said, no matter where you end up, you will one day become a dentist. I think there are a lot of great programs and I think ASDOH is actually one of the best programs around. I think UOP has just been around longer than a lot of schools and built a good reputation. Just the opportunity to go there was an honor in itself but ultimately, I am excited because I know I am going to get a top notch education in AZ

Thank you for your kind words, UCMS2013 🙂

Just received the rejection email today. No interview though. Not sad at all since I already got in my dream school 🙂

Good luck to you! Congrats on your other acceptance. 🙂

👍 My sentiments exactly. And I think you'll enjoy ASDOH.

Called Torri this morning..was put in the 2nd quartile. Still waiting to hear something from USC and still waitlisted at Roseman.

I'm giving up my spot at roseman, good luck!

Found out on Friday that I was placed in the 1st quartile, but I talked to Tori today and she said that so far the class is full and everyone has already payed their deposits so I don't really know what to expect...

interesting... so you're just supposed to wait/ hope that somebody will drop their decision?.. did she sound hopeful at all?

I was placed in the first quartile also. Thing is..UOP ws the only school I applied to last year as I originally planed on applying this coming cycle. So I'm really hoping I get in so I don't have to sit out a year.

A few questions if anyone can help please???

First, is there much hope? From what I've heard, in previous years the first quartile of alternates has almost always been accepted. But also I just read that the class is full and all students have paid up to date.

Second, when would I most likely hear if a spot opens up? Are there any other deadlines before class starts? I ask this because if I don't get in to UoP this year I want to send my ADSAS application in again on June 1st or soon after. I would like to avoid spending the few hundred bucks on ADSAS then hear I've been accepted and have to eat the application fees.

Third, if I do get in, I'm a little worried about getting housing! It doesn't seem like the school has many options for housing and I'm worried about finding a decent priced place and relatively close to school. I'm a single dude and would like to find a couple other students to share a place with.

Any help or information would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Not that I plan on coming to UOP anymore, but anyone know what's going on with the alternate list?

is anyone on the alternate list reapplying for UOP this cycle?

Attn: Any current UoP students

I am finishing up my undergrad next semester. Which would you recommend taking prior to matriculating, Tissue Bio (histology) or Biochemistry?

Thanks
