Okay, so I've been accepted to medical school (contigent upon successful completion of physics with a C or better). I need to take a physics course, but with my new work schedule I'm finding it difficult to register for a course that I can make work with my current schedule.

I am curious if any of you have taken physics online and had those credits accepted by a medical school? I need a semester's worth of credit hours in physics and would rather go this route than tick off my new boss by asking for a complete overhaul in my schedule.

Any suggestions/comments regarding online coursework welcome. Thanks.

can you take it at a different school?

In my experience, Online courses are just as demanding and in some cases more so. I couldnt imagine taking physics online. :scared: My .02

I've seen an online physics course but I would be very wary about taking one. The only way to know if it'll count is to contact the school. Also, it would have to include a lab which seems very difficult to do online.

Would I need to take a lab in the second part of physics? I've already taken a lab in physics I.

I don't know if you already have a course in mind, but the University of Nebraska has an independent study Physics course; same one that they make the pre-meds take. The lab is included and I think you pay independent study tuition rather than OOS tuition but I'm not really sure. I don't know how the course is organized in terms of exams but I think indepenent study is different from an online course. You might be able to find it somewhere else cheaper though. Just a suggestion.

Oh yeah, I don't think you can register for this until 2nd semester.

Good to know. Well, in the time since I've posted this I've found a night course offering at my local CC. It was just a shame b/c I work for a university and am able to take classes for free, but the timing's not there. Oh well. Thanks for all your help!

Good Luck punchap. I think that night class would be the best. I wouldn't wish my worst enemy take Physics II online. Just knock it out and see ya next year. 😉

Thanks for the info. T...I'll check it out. Hope you're doing well. 🙂

Definitely. 😉

Yeah my wife took an online physics course and it wasnt really that bad...she just had to submit the homwork assignments and do some labs with the little lab kit you have to buy. Her instructor didnt even make her take any exams...just homework assigments and labs.

i found the only online course (philosophy...no wrong answers!) i took to be a real pain. i would completely forget about it until something was due and scramble to get it done. sure i was being lazy and irresponsible, but that thing would sneak up on me. if you can pull it off, good luck

I took an online physics course through a large university over the summer. I recommend getting a tutor to help you because there's no lecturer...that helps a lot. Taking an online course is definitely doable. Good luck!

Are you good at physics? (that is the question you should ask yourself before taking it). Hope your not taking Calc. based physics, its the best but also the craziest... 😀

BTW I saw you interviewed at KCOM yesterday also, in you MDapps. I was the Indian guy from MI, with the brother who asked alot of questions... LOL

I was in the same position last spring and ended up taking Physics II online from a JC in Dallas.

Let me know if you want the contact info, and I'll see what I can come up with. It sucked, but I didn't have much choice. It included a lab that I did at home.

The main thing is to make sure your school will accept it.

Too bad you cant forgo this class altogether.... it is hell!

Take it at a community college in your area.

borrow, beg, steal, do anything to avoid working.

that could really screw things up if you got a D or F.

Desijigga --

I ended up cancelling my interview at KCOM, so unfortunately I didn't get to meet you or even see you. And to answer your question..I never took physics in high school and am not very good at it (especially calc.-based stuff), I ended up with a B in Physics I from my university, so I hope to pull off at least a B in physics II from my local cc.

Thanks for all your responses...I think I'll end up taking the course at my local cc that meets twice a week. 🙂

so I'm assuming LMU said this was fine?

Do you mean if it's okay with them to take it online? By the way, I'm rooting for you hardcore to ace the MCAT and get accepted this cycle! 😀
