Anka

Wow with people like Anka, there have to be some major chain reaction effects going on!

Unfortunately its going to take weeks before this is resolved.

I have a question. On wednesday i withdrew from UMDNJ-Newark and NYMC. I have received confo (electronically) from nymc, but have not had any confo from UMDNJ (i sent them an email as they requested). I am just a bit nervous that AMCAS still has me holding places at more than one school and thus possibly threatening my places at all schools (namely Einstein, which i plan on attending). Since May 15 is a saturday, no admission offices are open to inquire. Does anyone have any soothing words to calm me?

They would call you two months from now once they start to care if you are holding more than one acceptance.

yeah, i don't think they're so strict about the may 15th cut off date..people are like freaking out....relax people...they'd notify you first before they drop you...i think......

EDIT: maybe i should try to stop saying like all the time.....i do it when i type too......

its ok you're like from LA ok like dont worry about it

the only notification I have received has been a generic mass email " May 15th is quickly approaching..... " from Einstein. This was on monday and I wrote to the other two schools i was holding on Wednesday to remove myself. I am sure everything is fine, just thought Id see what others thought about the matter.

what about someone who would actually like to go there who will, as a result, have to wait longer than they would have?

JUST FOR FUN? Yeesh. Well, hopefully the other 100 plus people are on there just for fun too. I guess I'm on Einstein's just for fun in a way.

Withdrew: MCW
Holding: Tufts
Waiting: Northwestern, Columbia, NYU, UCLA, Vanderbilt (but probably won't go if I got off)

Withdrew: Baylor
Holding: Wash U
Waiting: Harvard (but I might stick with Wash U even if I got in)

I have a question...I withdrew from Baylor via email...but I never heard back from them. Do you have to actually send a letter or fill out a form to withdraw, and am I in trouble now?! 😕

Withdrew: Emory, NYU, Tufts
Holding: Cornell
Waiting: Columbia

Withdrew: UMDNJ-NJMS
Holding: NYU
Waiting: Pitt (would not go-just holding for fun), MSSM (would not go-just holding for fun), NU (would consider going if they accepted me soon)

Why would you hold a waitlist just for fun? :meanie:

I wonder why people will hold on to schools just for fun...to keep your options open, that's legitimate...don't you feel that it's a waste of adcom's time to review your file?

Withdrew: Tufts, BU, Sinai, Einstein, Downstate, Stony Brook
Holding: NYU
Waiting: Cornell, Hopkins, Columbia, Penn

Withdrew: nowhere
Holding: Penn State
Waitlisted: USC (am not doing it just for fun)

Withdrew: Vanderbilt, Einstein, Jefferson, SUNY Upstate

I wonder why other people are so concerned about other people's motives for doing something in their application.

🙄 How about because some of us actually want to go to those schools and it will just make things worse by having to wait longer? Is that a good enough reason?

Withdrew: Johns Hopskins, UWash, WashU, UCSF, Harvard, Columbia, Loma Linda.
Holding: Ponce
Waiting: Howard, University of Kansas (Go Jayhawks!), NBA draft.

Not only waiting these schools just for fun, but my entire post was just for fun. :meanie:

let me preface my rant by saying that I'm not looking to get in anywhere off a waitlist right now. I know where I'm going and this is just my take on the situation:

holding onto a waitlist spot for fun?? christ, are you that in need of validation and ego-stroking that you can't give up your spot? I don't get it... sure, if there's even some remote chance that you might want to go to a place at which you're waitlisted, then I can understand holding that spot and seeing how your situation plays out. but the longer you hold onto a spot, the greater chance it affects other people's decisions as well. think about it: maybe other people have an urgent timetable in which they have to make their decision (some schools have early start-dates, some people may need to relocate earlier especially if they have a family, etc). therefore, by holding onto a spot "just for fun", you diminish that person's chance of finding out that they got into a school they really want to attend within the time frame they have to act.

look, if it makes you feel any better, call up your Mom and ask her to tell you how great you are for getting into all the schools you got into. then maybe tell her about that mean josehernandez94 on studentdoctor who made you feel bad. she'll give you a kiss and it'll be all better. 🙄

Withdrew: Einstein, EVMS, U of Louisville, UC Davis
Holding: Pitt
Waiting: None!!

Heh I would have given my left nut to go to UCLA when I was applying. I definitely would have chose it over Columbia and Northwestern. To each his own. 😎

That's deep.

At this time our class is currently full and you are among a small group of applicants on the waitlist. Over the next few weeks and months a change may occur to the waitlist because of withdrawal or deferral and we will be referring to this list in order to fill vacated spots in the class. It is still possible that you may be admitted.
Please inform us as to whether you have accepted a position at another medical school and wish to be taken off our list. This list will remain active until the start of classes in August 2004. Past experience has shown that a number of students not immediately accepted are eventually admitted.
Thank you for your interest in the school of medicine. At this time we are sorry that we cannot be more specific and give you definite information. We wish you every success in your aspirations for a career in medicine or a related health field.
Sincerely,

So I guess they are not giving a chance to hold onto a waitlist spot just for the fun of it - they want to know now.

what school is that?

I'm not a California resident, and my family's not in California either, so I don't have a preference for staying in cali...
