I'm applying to the University of Wisconsin and the require a personal statement for the psychology program (Clinical psychology Dept. Application) and a general statement for pursuing grad school (UW Application). Has anyone ever applied to a program like this where they require two different statements? I'm also wondering how to approach the general graduate school statement. Do I repeat what I've discussed in my psych p.s. and add general thoughts on graduate study? Thank you for your help!

Sorry, that should read "they require" not "the require"

Yes, my grad school required both. In my case, and probably yours, too, the statement about pursuing graduate school, in general, will never be seen by the psych department and won't be used in your admission to the psych. program.

Because the bar is much higher to get into the psychology program, I wouldn't spend too much time on that statement to the exclusion of the one for the Department of Psychology. If I recall right, I just used a broader version of my statement of purpose to the psychology department for my statement of purpose for the graduate school

Out of curiosity, is this for Wisconsin-Madison? I've filled out most of the online part about contact information, academic history, etc. but haven't gotten to the personal statement prompt yet. I didn't realize that there might be TWO personal statements required. *groan*

Thank you, that is good to know.

It's not for UW Madison. But from what I understand, the UW system uses one application for all of their schools. At least, this is for the general grad school application, not the psych departments
