The Unseen Pathologist: Why You Might Want To Meet Yours

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My friend, Michael Misialek, is a pathologist in Boston. He wrote this great article for NPR about a face to face interaction he had with a patient. He's a cool guy and it is a great read. Check it out and share it: http://commonhealth.wbur.org/2013/08/meet-your-pathologist#more-33236

Thanks for sharing. I routinely show my patients their slides. I take a double sided scope with me to perform FNAs and go over the case with my patients. In general this has been a very positive thing in our institution.

Nice article. This guy gets it. He understands change is imminent and instead of complaining, he's embracing it as opportunity to demonstrate his talent and value. Pathology needs more people like this guy and less of the ones that fear every thing they must adapt to. Any effort to make pathologists more visible and their value to health care seen should be made. If you chose pathology so you could avoid the patient and keep your head down and to yourself, don't expect to be successful in the future. You need to be left behind. Sorry.

I don't mind seeing patients and showing them their slides, so long as I get to charge a consult fee.

Yeah, I said it.
