So the medical school application process is never black or white, there are those in the grey of waitlist/alternate lists. This thread is to keep all of us (myself included, on three of 'em) updated on which schools are moving, which schools are moving the most, and for historical records so that future applicants can search and see when schools started movement on their waitlists. A multi-purpose thread if you will useful for now and the future. I know the thread might be slow atm, but it will ramp up soon enough.

Example:

Hogwarts School of Magical Medicine: W 10/17, A 4/15 (waitlisted, accepted) (Plus any additional insider info if you have any)

The example given gives this a definite +1

Can you post your stats for getting an interview at Hogwarts?

I only had the stats to apply to muggle schools.

I got into Durmstrang first try, no love for my top choice Hogwarts. Only got in cause I aced my Wcat.

Currently waitlisted at 2 muggle schools: AT Still KCOM and Western COMP-NW....I did, however, gain acceptance to the Midwestern Masters program for potions (biomedical sciences). I am planning on retaking my WCAT after a poor showing in Defense Against the Dark Arts (aka physics). If I don't get an acceptance to the muggle schools I will re-apply to Hogwarts...I plan on spending the summer with Charlie Weasley in Romania working on the efficacy of dragon blood in treating those affected by the cruciatus curse.

Oh you guys/gals... Perhaps I should have used a different example. lol

I do give props for all the word play though! ha ha

Lol. Yeah, you should have used another example. I bet you this will go on for another page.

good thread!

I've been waitlisted at 3:

AZCOM, Western, TouroNY (High)

Last year I wanted to know what being on the waitlist feels like. Now I know for sure!

More people here would be appreciated! 🙂

I'm on 2.

AZCOM
Touro-NY (High)

loved both schools - applied late BS - 3.77, DDS, 3.46, MCAT 25 M

May 15th is the date when MD school applicants can only hold one acceptance. On this date MD applicants have to forfeit their other acceptances.

An example of why this is important to us DO waitlistee's.

A person with an acceptance to a few top MD schools (John hopkins, Harvard, etc) Has to drop one of his acceptances he is holding by this date. Let's say he drops Harvard becuase research wasn't his focus and only holds onto his JH acceptance. This creates a space in the Harvard class. Harvard responds by pulling one person off of their waitlist.

Now this person they have on their waitlist holds an acceptance to two other schools. When this person hears he was pulled off of the Harvard waitlist, he withdraws his other two acceptances, leaving spaces in the class for two people to be pulled off each of the medical schools waitlists, respectively.

This trickle effect comes down from the top schools all the way down.

Now you have someone who is holding two acceptances. One to a DO school and one to and IN STATE MD school. He decides to go to the MD school for money reasons. This creates a space in the DO school of choice and the trickle effect happens again.

That is why May 15th is an important date for us DO waitlisters.

DO schools do NOT have a date in which you can hold only one acceptance, nor do you have to inform the school in which you are not attending of not doing so. This is why people are accepted during the first week of classes.

Any specific questions that I left unanswered, ask. I'll be happy to answer them.

i knew that was the date for MD schools, and I had a feeling DO schools didnt have a deadline. I kinda had a feeling 5/15 was gonna be for anybody waitlisted at their top choice school.

hopefully you and I both get into DCOM man. It would be cool to be classmates. except im a total gunner, always have been:laugh:

oh and thanx for the explanation and clarification👍

I know Touro-NV took a few off of the high waitlist.

News from the front people? I know there has been some movement.

Accepted to UNE off the alternate list today. Interviewed way back in October and finally heard back with the good news. Not my first choice, but it feels great to be in somewhere!
