I'm new here, but I saw a thread like this before when browsing.

Anyway, i'm up late because I'm working on an assignment while doing some studying. How many hours of sleep should I get before my 10 am class? It's 2:24am right now!

Yes, LSU-Shreveport, everyone in Louisiana lives in a swamp. They don't even have swamps in Shreveport!!!! But alas, I did recognize the picture when I saw it. Yes, LSU-Shreveport, everyone in Louisiana lives in a swamp. They don't even have swamps in Shreveport!!!! But alas, I did recognize the picture when I saw it. I am admittedly as Louisianan as the best of them (OK maybe not the people who actually live on the swamps). I eat crawfish and I spell "go" like this: "geaux". 😀

My buddy kept telling me about crawfish. They look disgusting, but that for $10 you can get a bucket of 'lobster' in tiny bite size packages... ha ha.

I still think they look nasty.

I hate anatomy... 😳 I'll probably burn in Dr. hell for that one... It's so boooooring. The exception is neuroanatomy.

Here's what you do:

1) Scan all your images
2) Use the tape whiteout to whiteout the names of structures
3) Rescan the images with the whiteout covered names
4) Decimate a forest making prints.
5) Fill in the blanks... Over and over... and over.... and over.... sigh

Oh, and if it's a tough word to spell/remember, flip the page over and write it out 50 times while visualizing the structure.

Then fill out more sheets

Rinse, wash and repeat.

Yep, anatomy sucks...

I feel ya, man. My draft is due a week from this Tuesday and I have about 300 pages yet to read and about an inch and a half of journal articles... Oh yeah, then I need to put in the writing time....🙁

Sitting in the lab waiting for some little bacteria dudes to grow. Wasting my down time on the forums. My most effective hours are between 2-5AM, whether it is in the lab or studying.

It is 4AM now, got in the lab at midnight. Probably wander home in about an hour. Being in the lab when no one else is around is great. No one gets to see the mercury thermometer I just broke or ethidium I just spilled all over the bench. But seriously, so peaceful and quiet.

Back to trying to find a cure for a deadly infectious disease... Any ideas? I promise to give you authorship...

Wow. I could never get into the lab at midnight... the security guards at my school are so strict.

I got stopped about a month ago by a campus po. The pig wouldn't let me go into the building because I didn't have my hospital ID, even though I had my keys to the lab. Went and walked around for five minutes until he left.

Scared the living sh** out of a janitor in January at about 3AM when he walked into the lab to get the trash and the lights were out because I was doing a gel extraction. He about p*ssed his pants when he flipped the light switch.

One of my labs physicists almost lost a pound in his pants when I was there tonight. He comes bobbing around the corner and I swore I was going to have to do CPR.

The lights were off in my lab as well, because they are motion sensitive and I was doing an analysis at CPU... Who would have thunk that lab work could be so much fun.

😵 wow, you're crazy! I have been spending every day for the last two weeks now working nonstop, basically all day. The mental and physical attrition is crushing me, it's really hard to get out of bed every day knowing that I will be spending >10 hours in the library. I have about 30-35 pages now, and should hopefully have a draft finished in 2-3 days which gives me 1-2 days to edit (which may not be enough considering I just got feedback from my professor explaining that I have several critical structural problems).

I've given up on reading things all the way through, basically skimming helps a lot but I have a topic where that is possible (it's extremely multidisciplinary so often only a paragraph or a single chapter of one book/article is relevant).

The kicks and laughs that science geeks and academics get out of lab-related comedy always makes me smile.

I find lab stories the best, maybe I'm a nerd that way. Sometimes in my chem research lab when there are lulls between experiments (something is refluxing, etc) and everyone happens to be in the lab at the same time, the time-honored "chemgeek storytime" occurs where we go in a circle and share our craziest lab hazard stories (accidental synthesis of TNT, poor lab technique resulting in explosion throughout the building's ventilation system, accidental needlestick by syringes containing carcinogenic/low LD50 compounds). Those are awesome.

yeah, i might be a little crazy, but i don't think my thesis is as intense as yours, haha. for one it only has to be about 20 pages (with images!) and i did a similar study last year, so i've had at least a little basis.

but the good news is that, as it turns out, my data may have some significance after all!
