The worst bureaucracy in the nation

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So my 2nd Sequoiadendron Giganteum germinated... I watered it once and it got mold... I'm going to have to delicately operate and find better soil...

Hmmm..think about the drainage? Maybe add some rocks, mulch or sand to add texture to the soil. Sounds like it's rottin

I don't dislike him because he was a conservative. I dislike home because he was incompetent.

Oh oldie... so myopic man.

W and the posse prevented ours and worldwide fiscal system from collapsing. Basically you're saying "That doctor cut into me which was not only painful, it left a scar" when in reality the doctor cut to take the ruptured appendix out.

mmmm... you actually believe everyone in TX are bible thumping rednecks don't you.. :meanie:

No, but for some reason you keep electing them to positions of power, like over text books and school curriculum.😕

Evidently not.

And we thank you...so you're left with chitty roads and we have nice wide smooth logical grid system roads! :meanie:

Well the city itself is a nice grid. The Interstate Highway System around Philadelphia, now that's a real interesting treat.

No don't you watch Fox News. It was Obama that did that and all the other bad stuff. Didn't you get your copy of the talking points?

I tend to agree. Where there is mold, there is usually an excess of water....

But our kids are smart enough to figure out and differentiate between dogmatic religious view vs. Science. Again, don't you worry about our education system. You'd be amazed at overfunded state of the art and sophisticated schools around here.

Not when they outlaw evolution and it won't be taught....

The political debate was  so hope its dying down...eh, post #37 was somewhat sexy, entertaining...in a philosophical way

Ok, I will make an exception here and discuss my geopolitical views.

I'm talking about preservation of Petro-Dollar not the recent financial bubble collapse.

Collapse of Petro-Dollar means collapse of the US dollar and superpower status of the US. Next to dropping nuclear bombs in the US, collapsed US dollar is probably the most detrimental event that can change our lives..

You don't have to agree. But our hanging of Saddam bought us some time.. kinda showed rest of the OPEC and the Axis of Evil countries to leave petroleum - dollar trade alone as is.

Listen,

I'm not myopic at all. I am pretty well read. I don't think he was stupid. I think he was poorly advised and suffered from over confidence. Rumsfled and Chaney almost single handedly destroyed his presidency. Once a decision was taken, there was no review and evaluation. It was McCain and his surge (that Bush was opposed to) that saved our ass in Iraq.

History will judge Bush solely on the outcome in Iraq. Like I said, If Iraq is a bastion of democracy in the Middle East, he will be judged as a successful President who will have provided for the long term security of our country. A strong, democratic Iraq is bad news for Iran. If however, the opposite occurs and Iraq is such a weekend state that Iran will be able to dominate the region, he will have done massive harm to our long term interests. Only time will tell.

On the domestic front, his fiscal policy and expansion of government and deficits will cloud his legacy. He spent like a drunken sailor. The Patriot Act was a terrible blow to the constitution. You only loose your rights a little at a time and by the time you realize how much you have lost it's usually too late.

So, no, I am not a leftist ideologue who hates Bush. I am pretty fair observer of the political scene. As far as teasing you about Texas, well that's just havin a little easy fun....

Not when they outlaw evolution and it won't be taught....

Did that pass?

My understanding is that it wasn't the deletion of the topic of evolution from the subject, rather the methodology of how it's taught by using the term "weakness" of darwinian theory.

Again, this was debated but not unanimous nor do I really care.

Do you believe everything you were taught in your 2ndary education? If my kids opt to believe creationism or evolution, it will have to be their choice and their religious belief. Not mine. I will share with them my belief but they'll have to decide on their own.

You don't actually believe our goal is to spread "democracy" do you? Why is democratic Iraq bad for Iran? What do we care about democracy as long as the ruling party is a US puppet...

Don't you remember when Iran was our friend? Don't you remember when Iraq was our friend? Neither democratic.

But why does Iran want nuclear weapons? Why did we attack Iraq?

Why?

I don't agree with your premise. You don't have to be geopolitical. All politics is local. The people with Oil are mostly sheiks who want to stay in power. They are so allied with the US as they live in terror of Iran. The only people who could wreck the dollar are the Chinese and they would not survive that either. They want us weakened but not dead. Just strong enough to buy their crap and keep their people employed (and them in power) but not strong enough to threaten them. The Arabs would rather be in bed with us than the Chinese.

I don't give a blank about spreading democracy. Iran is a weak dictatorship. For years Iraq kept them from misbehaving. If Iraq fails, Iran will dominate.

As to why they want the bomb. To keep themselves in power. They are afraid what happened to Iraq, will happen to them.

What kind of pH they need? I had to adjust it for my palms and citrus trees back home.

hmmm... I'll have to check...

I do have about 50 seeds... so if my seelings die, I'll replant...

But it's bad soil I got from our garden... but the seedlings are in a different section of the pot with different soil with no mold...

I don't believe much of anything I was taught. There are facts and there are beliefs. As you have probably figured out, I am a pretty religious person. I would have no trouble with teaching religion in school. What I do have trouble with is teaching anything about religion in Science Class.

I personally believe there is a great deal to learn from Genesis, but it has nothing to do with biology.

Right.

But 10 years ago, Arabs and some OPEC wanted to go to bed with Euro... flush the dollars and start the Petro-Euro as the dominant currency. This movement was led by Saddam and his oil for food program where he was promised and backed by Germany/France. This got him hung. Poor bastard.

He thought Germany and France would back him up. How wrong.

Imagine though...if we did nothing about it...let OPEC start the Petro-Dollar trade...where would we be today?

Today, Iran wants nothing more than the ability to sell their oil the way they want... Euro...yuan...or whatever the currency they want... But not as long as the big bad US has missiles pointed at em.. hence they also need missiles pointing at the US for a leverage.

it's too late to start cooking brisket... to do it right that is...

get a burger.

Nahh, I have plenty of time. Got a good recipe for the oven that uses sauce w/ bottle of beer, chili sauce, brown sugar, etc. Comes really good.

So who's read Dave Barry's new book? I'm reading it by the pool...chuckled a few times.

That is wrong. We hang people who abuse brisket like that in Texas.

2012 Opec Summit will be interesting. Could spell out the end of 40 years of economic free ride for the US. Will we see the rise of Yuan & Rubles while witnessing the failed experiment of Euros and the end of Dollar hegemony?

I hope not.

😱 Now that Ive read more...this thread got deep...

This is a new revelation? Watch a bird fly into a glass window and bounce off and then after they regain their senses they do it all over again.

I think you need to take a picture of it. And then tell us all about the camera and what type of lense you used....👎

Oh surely!

I present to you world's largest tree specie "Sequoiadendron Giganteum" seedling germinated from a seed produced by a smuggled cone from an un-named locale. Actually 3 seedlings growing at the moment.

Taken with Canon 20D @ ISO 800, at 200mm focal length, 1/100sec f5.6 with a Tamron 20-200mm lens.

ummm... Big difference between Pine and Sequoia. Yes, they're both monocotyledons and coniferous evergreens. But one is a genus Pinus and the other is genus Sequioadendron - cypress family redwood.

It's not a pine cone.. do I need to take picture of em? These cones live up to 20 years and release seeds in rare occasions.

dork.

So Mr. Biologist, how much time does it take for that species to grow? just a curious question.

That would be Mr. "Botanist" and which species and to grow how big?
