THE 'Y' CHROMOSOME

People born before 1946 are called - The Greatest Generation.

People born between 1946 and 1964 are called - The Baby Boomers.

People born between 1965 and 1979 are called - Generation X.

And people born between 1980 and 2010 are called -Generation Y.

Why do we call the last group -Generation Y ?

Y should I get a job?
Y should I leave home and find my own place?
Y should I get a car when I can borrow yours?
Y should I clean my room?
Y should I wash and iron my own clothes?
Y should I buy any food?

But perhaps a cartoonist explained it most eloquently below...

Just thought you might want to know "Y"

Wish I could disagree, but it so true!

Successful Gen Y'rs, please disregard the previous posts. Apparently we need to get off their lawn...

It would have been nice if many of us gen Y'rs could have ridden off the economic back of "daddy's" WW2 GI bill. Instead, we graduated during the worst economic crisis since the great depression. Many of us have raised our self up, despite the failed economic policies of the past generations. Negative posts like this only show how older generations are slowly becoming less relevant, while we are quietly taking the reigns. I'm sure many of us would prefer if this board pertained to PT rather than generalizations and insults geared toward fellow and future PTs.

I tend to agree with you, barefootsocks. It really makes my blood boil when someone claims that a group of which I am a part through no choice of my own somehow defines my characteristics and the degree to which I'm willing to work toward my goals. If this were done with respect to the color of my skin, it would be called racism.

I'm sure you can point to many examples to "prove" your point, but the fact is that no amount n=1 experiences justify making such blanket claims (even if couched in humor). This post was in really poor taste, PT Dad.

I agree with your sentiments. You can't make generalizations about a generation. But it's called light humor. Relax.

@newtestament, I'm sure you would have trouble "relaxing" over jokes based on your user name. It's all relative. This type of attitude divides people and is not constructive. Thus, by telling people to relax over being offended does help. And by all means, I do not mean to offend you, but rather to serve a point.

Perhaps for now on, we can keep these boards for PT related subjects, rather than posting immature content that only divides people.

I'm not sure I'm finding what is so inappropriate/offensive about the original post. PT Dad routinely posts some good jokes related to healthcare (maybe not so related this time) and I thought it was pretty obvious this was yet another light-hearted post. I guess what I'm saying is if you are so easily offended by an obvious joke, I would hate to see how you respond to some of the wacky things that patients can and will say to you in clinical practice.

PTDad has been posting light hearted jokes for years and they are just that--jokes. You guys should probably take yoga classes or something.

👍

My goodness, I didn't think a little humor would offend so many. But since it did, I apologize to all of those thin skinned PTs and students that took offense. I doubt that any of you are wearing your pants down around your knees anyway. I don't think your patients would approve.

Keep the jokes coming PT Dad!
