I'd be volunteering with children with developmental disabilities such as autism, down syndrome, etc. at a therapeutic riding center. I'd be directly aiding them brush horses and ride. Would this count as clinical volunteering?

My sibling participated in a program like this (as one of the kids, not as a volunteer), and she loved it. Definitely do it! I think this would really stand out on an application.

Non-clinical volunteering. They are not patients, they don't have medical records at the facility, they don't have doctor's orders for this activity (whereas folks in a rehab facility or hospital have doctor's orders to get out of bed, participate in activities, eat a specific type of diet, etc).

Is babysitting "clinical" if the child has a chronic condition or is developmentally disabled? Is coaching baseball "clinical" if one of the players has asthma or diabetes?

That said, non-clinical volunteering with people who are unable to help themselves, is a good use of your time.

I did this for years and got very involved. I would not count this as clinical volunteering. Everyone always asked about this so it was really a big talking point. But you aren't really doing anything clinical.

If it is hippotherapy and you are working with therapists, then yes put as clinical volunteering. If it's therapeutic riding, it's non-clinical.
