Hello everyone,
I just took the DATs yesterday for the second time, and there is no doubt the test has changed and is now significantly harder. I mean, the questions were nothing like destroyer, achiever, topscore, kaplan. (Except for ochem)
I guess my suggestion is to use text books if you are taking the test in a near future.
I still see posts here from people who just took the test and thought that the questions were similar to destroyer and etc.... but evidently you can get unlucky and get the newer version which is much much more difficult. Sound somewhat unfair to me, if in fact the two test types are much different in the level of difficulty.
Having said that, study as hard as you can, rely on text books, and good luck!

I am taking the test again, I took it last year... did your score go down? that makes me question if I should take it again and risk my score going down....

If u thinking about retaking, be really careful what u wishing for.. make sure you really know your stuff. Not just what's on kaplan and destroyer and etc.. It's just that the questions are changed, so you don't go "oh ya ya, know this one. saw thiso on destroyer or topscore" questions are just asked in a different way.
you'll can do well.. just study really hard.

wait when did you take the exam originally? Last year? or has it gotten harder in the last few months?

I took it last year, but I think generally it's even got harder in the last few months

Yes, I totally agree, I just took mine today, for second time, And I have to say questions were lot harder from last year, And none of the practice tests are good for that, none of them.

don't waste your money buying them anymore, bcz you just have to read you 600 pages textbook in detail.

sarmadpa,

I know exactly what you're talking about, I feel the same way, I took my exam on 8/27 it's was nothing like destroyer or kaplan. In quantiative section I got like 15 trigonometry questions, it's not sin or cosine kind, it's arcsine, arctangent calculation kind. which is not covered. I got 1 probability and 1 percentage question and other are word problems. NOT like What other said that most of the questions are probability, percentage and word problems... Chemistry I got 10 calulation that I have to actually do the calculation. Bio, I thought the 5 answer choices are very close to each other to do elimination, there were 3 slides, which are very hard to see. it's so small and unclear (to me). Organic is OK nothing unexpected. RC, it's ok too but time is a problem, paragraphs are too long. and too many questions.
For others that gonna take the DAT soon, make sure you study anything that you could get your hand on, don't stick to just kaplan and Destroyer...Destroyer is ok to practice, DOn't use it as a main study guide. It's not as helpful like what other's have said.

good luck....

Thanks for attempting to make me feel any better... though i think i am a lost cause at this point. I guess my only question left is that, how are dental schools going to deal with such a gap in DAT scores? So say, someone who took it 2 years ago and got 17's is no where quivalent to a 17 this year... or are we just going to get screwed??

In take my DAT on the 22nd-- there is no possible way I can reread all of my textbooks... seriously how should I approach studying?? I have done Kaplan, so should I look at all the Schaum's outlines? Thanks for your help and advice!!!
