Hey Everyone,

I know there has been a lot of doom and gloom (and I am guilty of it as well), but I do think the pathology job market will get better. Its hard to believe it will get worse. For those med students and younger residents reading this, the market is bad now, but eventually groups will need more pathologists. Its almost like the stock market. Nobody can predict when the market will be good or bad, and if you are a believer in Warren Buffet, right now there couldn't be a better time to "buy". In fact because it has gotten so bad, you can probably be rest assured that things will be better by the time you get out. You may make a little less money, but I have never seen a starving doctor on the side of the street asking for money. If you truly love path, then do path, but come into it with an open mind. No specialty is free of issues. I have actually told the younger residents in my program that yes, it is bad right now, but it will probably be much better by the time they get out (and I truly believe that). Medicine, just like the stock market goes on a pendulum. Right now the pendulum is fully to the left. It will eventually swing back towards the right.

If we all knew what specialty would be "hot" in 8 years by the time M1s and M2s are ready to work, we would all be millionaires and have retired from medicine a long time ago getting rich off the stock market . . . . For every doom and gloom guy on here, there are probably 20 or more happy pathologists who are out there hiking, running, spending time with their family, or going for a long bike ride after a day of work rather than sitting and posting on this website about how awesome his or her job is . . . . That's the great thing about pathology. It gives you a chance to have a life outside of medicine, and I don't think that will ever change . . . . 👍👍👍👍👍

Just always remember this: "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?????"

Am I the only pessimist turned optimist on here? Did anybody get my joke at the end? And for bonus points what movie is that quote from?
