Hello everyone! As soon-to-be new mom, I have a question regarding thermometer.
I would like to purchase a thermometer for emergency use if my baby ever gets sick. What is the most basic that you guys (pediatricians) recommend? Ear thermometer like braun
or underarm or others?
Please let me know brands as I am new to this.
Looking for the most basic one that moms should have in case of illness.
Thanks

don't waste money on ear or temporal or pacifier thermometers. Just get a basic, straightforward model that can take a rectal temp, and also used for an oral temp when the child is older. My local branch of a well-known national pharmacy sells nice, digital thermometers that take a temp in 8 seconds for about $8. That's really all you need.

Yup, butt thermometer. TM thermometers are not accurate in under 6mo old due to the architecture of the ear and the forehead thermometers aren't all that great either. IF you need a temp (and you don't need to take a temp just for the hell of it), you want it to be accurate in the younger crowd-that means rectal.

Thanks . I didn't want to really do rectal but thanks for letting me know

Yep, a basic, run-of-the-mill rectal thermometer is what you need. I like ones with a digital read because it's just easier. The forehead/underarm/ear varieties just aren't accurate on small babies.
