These threads: What is Marine Biology considered?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I've tried searching on the forum and couldn't find the answer.

So according to this: http://www.adea.org/dental_educatio.../ADEA AADSAS General Instructions Booklet.pdf
Page 28, what exactly is Marine Biology?

It's not listed specifically. Would it be Zoology? Animal Science? Any ideas? I'm trying to calculate my BCP.

What is the course acronym: is it Bio 132 or smth like that? If the course is accredited by the Biology department then it would be a Bio course. For example I had a stats class that was accredited by the business department and they wouldnt count it as a math class. They said nope its business, not math and therefore not part of the sGPA. So I believe the department is the way they look at course definitions.

Not sure if you are applying this cycle or if you've applied already, but I would argue against that, especially if you did well!

ADEA clearly states that Statistics, any department, is considered "Other-Science"

Also, it is a BIOL course.

Was going to ask what Environmental Biol + Ecotoxicology would be considered too (Both under BIOL department)

if it starts with bio, i would put bio

if it's starts with something like mari, then i would put other sciences.

i had the same question about environmental science, and that subject wasn't even listed in the adea guide. it said to just use your best judgment, so i put it down as other science.

Trust me I called AADSAS and argued and they said nope. Have the school contact us, I did and it didn't work. If you want call them tomorrow and ask, but I believe they'll tell you the same exact thing. Seems like they're keeping it easy and only care bout the department that issues the credits. If you did well in the Marine Bio then its gonna be in your favor.

That's unfortunate. I'm sorry to hear. The guide I linked for the 2013 cycle says that any department counts. 🙁

Fortunately for me, Statistics is under Math for me so it counts as science. Unfortunately for me, I did poorly in MarineBiol (I know... 😳) so it's unfortunate that it will count towards my BCP, hehe.

What do you guys think about Paleobiology. Would this be in Biology or Other sciences

As of 2012 for the 2013 cycle (current one), Geology is considered an "other science"
