I am applying right now, and while I am finished with all my classes for my BA (in English), in order to graduate I need to complete an honors thesis. For a variety of reasons I may not finish the thesis and may instead pursue graduation through the regular (non-honors) program at my university. I have already listed the thesis as an upcoming course on AMCAS and mentioned it in several of my secondaries. How bad would it look to med schools if I change this now? Would updating them with a new class schedule be sufficient, or would I need to send them some kind of explanation as well? Opinions on how this would be viewed are welcome.

if i were you i'd just suck it up and finish it. you'll look back on it in a year and be glad you did.

if you can't do it do to extenuating circumstances, then i'm sure med schools will hardly bat an eye.

I would just finish it. Honestly, my thesis was the most rewarding part of my college education. I would concur with the "suck it up and finish it". Most of my roommates wrote theirs in a week or less, so it can be done. As far as how it's viewed, my guess is that it may not be looked upon favorably if you don't do it after you said that you would - especially if you wrote about it in your essays. However, if you have a good reason, then I'm sure it'll all work out in the end. Good luck.

I would just do my best to write it. As a friend in grad school once said, "Done bad is still done".

Thanks for the feedback...I would like to finish it, and am trying to do so, but there are some extenuating circumstances. Unfortunately I have to deal with a VERY difficult prof to get this done, and he will not let me just "get by" with it, so we'll see.
