hai everyone,

theres something that puzzles me...

.....letters of recommendation!

i mean..here i am... a fresh entry to the US..trying to get some idea abt this 'cool but confusing' country...and the only person i know outside of my family is maybe the mailman! how in the world am i going to get letter'S' of recommendation to apply for advanced standing???????

help me will you ppl...or i will have to ask the mailman!!

Meghana, relax..The letters of recommendation to apply for advanced standing are from the Dean & proff of dental school u studied and not the mailman!

Let's see...Dial his number on the telephone, talk to him, ask him for a letter, he puts it in the mail, you check your mail, and tada!! you have an LOR 😀 Just giving you a hard time, good luck and welcome to the country!

Don't worry,we all have to run around for our reco's, while sitting here in the US.I have my mom working on it, back home,some of my friends whoz parents are not in the city where they studied have gotton hold of our juniors to do the dirty work.Ofcourse,you can/shd request the dean of your college for the reco..either by sending a fax,or a letter.Be sure to mention who will be collecting the letters on your behalf.Some schools will be nice enough to mail it to you directly if you have a fedex account or pay them for postage.All you have to do is get in touch with a reliable source in your college and see what works.Hope this helps....I'm in the same boat!!

u know what..if u have had a dean like mine... ..this female made me run around for my transcripts for one whole day when all i needed was her signature..she just wdnt give it to me...saying she was busy or to come later.. and when she got fed up seeing my face..she upgraded herself to 'quit bothering me!'...and u know what ppl...i had to BRIBE her secretary to get it signed and mailed to my place!!

so..maybe i shd call her up and say..'hey lady...i need ur recommendation to get into a dental school here in the US...and there's no way i can come down and beg for it...so u better send it to me...here's my address.....' 🙄

and oh boy...will i get recommended! what do u think eric275?

hi meghana,its not only you who struggled hard to get the transcripts,we all sailed in the same boat.at least u waited for single day,i waited for whole week to get my OWN TRASCRIPTS.not some one else.it happens.our college doesnt even provide a single letter head paper for recommondation letters,now forget about the letters with out the letter head pad.i think u r college is a little better.any how good luck for u r preparation.

Like I say when you are in trouble say JAIHIND.Boy ,looks like you guys had to wait only a few days .Now ,I am not even an Indian citizen,got stuck there in a dental school and my visa was was expiring in a day and I was waiting outside the office of my school ,trying to wonder if I could catch the plane.The only motivation I had was that I was coming back home.About ,knowing ppl well meghna,my problem was I only knew the mailman when I went to India.Now that is bad.

hey meghana,your story is all so familiar..believe me I had to pitch tent outside the princi's office just so that she could see me there ever so often and the probably pity my state and do the needful.But I was asked to pay for every signature and stamp the school issued.Which school are you from.....do pm and lemme know....I have a feeling we may b from the same place!I had one prof who gave me a reco and after I typed it on the dept letterhead....said that the words didn't sound right...so I had to redo the whole thing!!

My Advice : Get extra Recommendation letters than what u require so that u dont have to be in this kinda situation again !! 🙂

have encountered same prob...i had to literally fight with my princi to get my internship papers signed before i left college...i had no choice but get her a gift...(a watch!) ..yah i know..its disgusting..and its even disgusting that I DID IT...i had no choice..i was leaving for the US in 2 days..

by the end of the day i succeeded though it was surprising that she basically stranded me there...coz gosh ..i thot she wd be happy to see me leave!!

thats a lovely thought toothmaniac..but the question is...what if everyone already knows whats going on...atleast regarding my college thats the case...every person in the college incl. the staff knows who accepts bribes...they r all silent...WHY? i think we cannot do much if powerful ppl with influence r involved..

im sorry i confused u, buddy....

watches and sarees are common things given as bribes...so i just wanted to say that like it or not...its better to make the ppl responsible for recommendation letters and other documents, happy!...after all, its our necessity and not theirs!
