things didnt go as planned

btw, does patient interaction at a nursing home count? like exercising the elderly playing games with them ect count as clinical experience?

I'd say it counts. I'm a sophomore as well, and I don't think I really have so many EC's myself. I'm really considering doing research over the summer though, but I also have to study for the MCATs too because I'm planning to take it in August. I wonder how it'll work out.

you're only in your winter quarter of your sophomore year. Are you really deadset on applying next year? There's nothing wrong with taking the year off. IMHO the first year of college should be dedicated to solely getting settled in and getting good grades nothing else. The same for second year (organic chemistry killed many) except that's when you should start asking around about what EC's are out there and building outside activities slowly but surely.

Yes, it's a clinical experience.

Volunteering at the hospital is sufficient if you are doing that on a regular (ideally, weekly) basis. And being a youth counselor is an excellent community service, if it isn't too sporadic.

I think you've burned your bridges at the clinic. Volunteer coordinators don't want unreliable help any more than an employer would. Why shold they take a chance on offering you any other shifts? Learn your lesson from this and don't do something like that again.
