There's one of these in the Osteopathic boards, and there's a "Things I Should Do Before..." in this board, but there's no similar thread that I have found on the Allopathic boards.

I basically took my last semester off (Spring 2009). Other than physiology, I had joke classes, and it seems like I've lost a step...Or 12.

I'll make this post short: What should I glance over before MSI starts in August so that I feel confident in myself again. I'm not going to go studying for hours upon hours, because I'm sure that I'll do that in about a month, but if you could give me a general idea (for example: basic biochem - Kreb's cycle, urea cycle genetics - epigenetic inheritance, etc), I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Not studying is my problem. I feel like I have eaten my brain. 🙂

For instance, if my girlfriend asks me a basic science question, I have to either think really, really hard about it or look it up before I can confidently answer her.

Maybe I'll just skim my MCAT books for bio and chem...That would be a solid review of basic science concepts, I think.

Just think of it as your mind clearing in preparation for the learning to come.

Things to review... Let's see... How about:

1) The beaches of Argeles sur Mer
2) The Temple of the Sun in Machu Picchu
3) Xi'an, China
4) The pyramids in Egypt
5) Thessaloniki, Greece
6) Venice
7) Prague

That should do it. 😉

If I could afford it, I would be there!

I just threw out the idea to go on a cross country camping road trip to San Diego. They're down with it. 🙂

Not a bad idea at all. I loved SD. Enjoy it. Really take the time to savor each and every moment, on the way there and while you are there. Once school starts, it's like someone took you out of your Yugo and plopped you in a Formula 1 and said, "floor it!"

Just in case you need to hear it again, DO NOT REVIEW ANYTHING!!!!!!! IMO, you'll be a step ahead if you come in well rested than amped on some overzealous effort to review pre-matriculation.

First advice is like everyone else's - give your mind the peace it will be begging you for soon enough.

Second, if you MUST look at some notes, since the last thing you did was physiology - maybe look at some review notes like at the ends of chapters or summaries you made before tests or just going over a few test questions from your exams can be all you need to get your wheels turning again. MAXIMUM of 10 to 15 minutes a day. ONLY if you can't keep yourself from it. Okay - now you have something to hold on to. I do know that rusty feeling. I get it about every 5th day... LOL!

But truly - let it go. Soak up the freedom, the weather, the balance meals, the free schedules, the movies... Be with friends and family all you can. Just store up the supplies for the journey you're taking across a desert soon....

OP- the answer has been repeated by many people here, and so I'll add to the same......don't do ANYTHING.

please.

UNC gave us lectures and notes that we have to learn before we start real class....booo

I'm going to go against the grain here.

If I were you, I'd spend the summer reviewing organic chemistry and physics. In med school, you deal with a lot of organic solvents, and there are tons of questions where you have a box being pushed up the edge of a triangle. But sometimes, it is sliding down the triangle too.

And if you get some extra time, review some **** about drosophila.

I guess it's fine that I'm just playing golf and relaxing then. 🙂

Over the last month, I've watched the first 13 seasons of ER. I'm pretty impressed with myself tbh...

That is impressive. I have the dvds of seasons 4-10. I think I'll make it my goal this month to watch 1-3. In my opinion, it just went downhill after/during season 10. Season 15, however, is worth watching.

OMG! I completely agree. I started watching it in 9th grade but never got in the habit of keeping up with it. Spending the summer in bumsville Georgia, I've had the time to torrent all 15 seasons 😛

nothing man... absolutely nothing. Seriously.

I have watched all the ER seasons too! Though I started when I was maybe 12 (my mom didn't let me watch it before that) and since I homeschooled in high school I watched episodes on TNT everyday to catch up... there isn't an episode I haven't seen! But the last few years were really crummy and the finale wasn't too good either.
