hey guys,
what are things you make sure to ask about on your interviews? and what are things you try to do while you're there? i want to get an idea of what other people think is important in making their decision.

obviously, i ask all the standard questions about curriculum and clinical experience and all that, but the other stuff i ask about is:

what kind of work out facilities do you have?
are there good restaurants (i love indian and other ethnic food!)?
what is the weather like year round?
what is the bar scene like?
how safe is it to be outside by yourself at night (i'm a nighttime runner)?

if i can, i like to run/go to the bar/go out to eat while i'm there. it's sort of silly, but i just wanna see if i like all that stuff. even though we'll just be studying all the time, i'm sure there will be a little time to have some fun, and i want to be in a good city to do it.

so, what's important to you guys?

I dont think you should ask all that stuff.. You are supposed to be a professional (whose mind has already taken it for granted that you are already a physician and that you are meant to be there. The physician interviewing you will expect respect and he would prefer not to be the person to answer these random questions, but something that he relates professionally to. You'd rather ask these qnestions and get better answers from other people- so you are not making the interviewer feel that you are interested in his school in any way.
You are there in formal clothes just because you already represent a doctor. They want to see:
1) How professional you are. Eg: in between a eye examination, they dont expect you to ask your patient "do you like indian food?" Unless the patient knows you personally.
2) How interested you are in their school and how do your goals match to the goals of their school..
I think these are the only things that should be exagerated, a s it is I dont think the interviewer might want to take an whole hour letting you ask him questions..
You should know the interviewers field of interest or his research etc.. so that you can strike a little bit of conversation about that with him.

Well I ve been to Albert Chen's workshops and he has awesome tips.. So you can trust me a little, if not completely

lol, i don't ask my interviewers these things! i'm talking about asking student hosts or others you know who already live in the city about this stuff.

i was not asking if you thought it was appropriate or professional. i was asking what things concern you other than the standard stuff.

i forgot that professionals aren't supposed to have fun, sorry. 🙄

hey, i think those are good questions for students, etc.. as well as where do the majority of the students live/ is there a sense of community that sort of thing. i wouldnt ask about the weather all year round, i mean thats something you can look up , but why not ask about bars restaurants etc after all you will be living there for four years! to your interviewer i would ask things about the curriculum, community involvement etc... u know the drill

what is albert chen's workshop, priyanka? am i missing out ? 🙁

hahaha i can just see you asking the physician interviewer "hey can you recommend any good bars where i can get a hookup?" I think that's an instant acceptance b/c they'll see your real priorities.
