rockstar, if I were you I'd stop worrying about where you will be living/which school is your #1 choice until you get the actual acceptances. No point in deciding a school is your favorite and later finding out you get rejected. That's a real buzzkill. Wait until you get the acceptances, then do the in depth research of a location/school.

i think i must be the only one who actually enjoys the process. sure, the waiting is annoying and it's expensive and the secondary essays can be hard, but i just approach each one like it's a challenge that i have to overcome. it's sort of like i'm competing in the olympics and right now i'm trying to qualify for the final. i've made it past the prelims (gpa and mcat) and i've had that one big victory that gives me confidence to relax about the process a little bit (vandy interview). i think about it constantly, sure, but i don't hate anything about the process cuz i know i'm getting a lot out of it and it'll all be worth it in the end (whether or not i get it).

if you just make up your mind to not think about it, you will be fine. decide to let the cards fall as they may. you can't change anything anymore, no sense in stewing over it.

I know you are totally right, that is what I should be doing. Problem is, my office job is REALLY BORING and the only thing that gets me through the day is the thought that hopefully by next year I won't have to be here. Instead of filing papers I surf the web and look up cities. It is much more fun to live in the future than in my current job. I really do research all the cities a lot, but I'm not taking myself too seriously 😉

Yeah this is my problem, I worry about things that I have no control over. When I have control over something I don't mind it so much (though secondary essays get very draining after a while). It's the waiting. Like waiting for my committee to send out its letter. Every day I'd be checking my e-mail for confirmation from the office that they sent the letter out.

But I'm starting up at Americorps now so I'll have something to take my mind off the worrying, and I think that's a decidedly good thing.

I just discovered this site and was talking to one of my overacheiver friends and she said "Oh yeah, SDN. Those people are nuts." It's true, we are, but it's so helpful to know everyone out there is freaking out too. My LOR writers are finally getting their stuff out, but I still check my email compulsively. 😳

1) Schools that require letters of recommendation outside of the usual 2 science profs and a humanities prof.

2) Schools that feel as if your recommenders must fill out their individual "check the box" forms

3) Schools that place crazy restrictions on who can give you a recommendation that K-I-L-L non-trads.

4) The belief that letters of rec mean squat. They're usually just fluff from someone who drones on and on how student X is wonderful. I worked for an admissions office for a few years, and we would laugh about how Student A was exactly the same, wonderful person as Student B, C, D, E, and F.

Guess where I've had the most frustration this admissions cycle?

Just how I feel! Especially the ones with really strict guidelines. Funny how the average age at those schools is usually around 22 . . .

I'm having the most "fun" with one LOR writer. I busted my ass to get my secondaries returned quickly, only to find that NONE of my files are complete b/c of one person who claims "I'll get to them."

I just hate asking for LORs on principle. I don't like asking for favors, and I know it's kinda a lot of work, and I know that unless I pick just the right people to ask, I'm going to end up with this very generic letter. I wonder how many letters adcoms read that sound exactly. the. same.

I get an interview from school A and then hear absolutely nothing from any other schools for two weeks. Then suddenly, on my 1,678,543rd click of the refresh button, I see a new email with the word "interview" in it and almost hit the ceiling in elation. It's not until I read the entire subject line that I see that it is only an update about my upcoming interview at school A, at which point I drive my fist through the screen.

HOLY CRAP!! It happened again! I saw the word "interview" in the subject line, became ecstatic and after reading it, realised that it was just a reminder of my upcoming interview at schol A.

Are they hellbent on making me go postal??
