things you wish to do before hittin' the bucket

Hi, definately not a high schooler. Sorry for butting into your forum, never been here before.

I wrote a bucket list when I was in my mid twenties while sitting in a DUDS N' SUDS laundromat - it was a place you could eat, drink beer , meet people and do laundry. I lost the list this summer when I traveled to go to medical residency and losing the list makes me kinda sad. I was happy to see at that time that I had accomplished about half of my list but had several significant things to do. This is a partial list as my list was two pages long, so this is from memory:

Some things done:
1) Been in 5 movies (actually 6, pretty much extra work. My goal was 5 - only had 2 small speaking roles. My 6th was a made for TV movie on SPIKE TV this fall).

2) Achieved a 5th degree black belt (I actually earned my 6th degree in Japanese Jujutsu in 1996. I have also been in most martial arts magazines in the USA).

3) Finished the grad school I was attending at the time.

4) Earned my MD - (although I wrote this list in the mid 1980's, I finally got my MD Spring of 2006 - it took me roughly 20 years to come to fruition)

5) Went hang gliding

6) Bench press 300 LBS (actually benched 365 LBS in 2003)

Left to do:
1) Climb Mt.Fuji and Mt. Kilimanjaro

2) Be a pro-wrestler (may not happen at my age)

3) Parachute

4) Set a Guinness Book of World Record in something cool - NOT worm eating

Will not happen;

1) Become a Soke of a new martial art - I have not done martial arts since 1998. After ~27 years of continuous martial arts practice ; starting in 1970 (Bruce Lee was still alive) training in Tang Soo Do , I stopped in 1998 - it was very depressing to stop

I can't believe its been 20 or 25 years since I wrote that list. I have accomplished alot of things, but so many I have not done. And in reality the most important thing I have not done.

I highly recommend doing those things now. In another 25 years its highly concceivable I will be dead. I wish I had done more things in the past 25 years.

What movies? I get told my a lot of friends that I should be a comedian, but I've really made an effort. Perhaps if I move to NYC or LA. 😉

Is anyone else disconcerted by the fact that many of the lists here have goals like becoming a doctor, having a family, and being happy interspersed with ones that are unaccomplishable and far-fetched?

I have this on a t-shirt!

Also, I think that a little dreaming is good for the soul. I, for instance, plan to be very rich when I grow up. I'm going to have a cook, a maid, a very expensive and fast car, lots of time off from work so that I can travel around the world, and most importantly (I've been dreaming of this for years) I will heat my house to 73 degrees. Even when I'm not home.

Gonna happen? No. But I can dream!

I want to have kids, several of them (and a nice husband, of course) . I come from a family with 4 kids, and I can't really understand how I could like having fewer. I love all the interaction, but maybe this is also biased by how well I get along with my 2 younger brothers.

I want a job that I, as someone (I think my mom) said to me, "look forward to in the morning". And I'm hoping that medicine will, one way or another, fulfill that.

Many people have included travel in theirs. Somehow, travel really doesn't interest me.(my friend on the other hand...)

Oh, and I want to do something that has some sort of lasting impact. I don't have to be really famous or anything, just something that says I was here and I made a difference.

Hahaha! This reminds me of how my parents always argue about what temperature to set the thermostat. I still don't understand what the big deal is between a difference of a few degrees... :/ (well except for the money part, lol)

Yeah. We're "trimming the bill" this year, and our house is set to 62. When we're home.

*shivers*
