Hello,

I am a third time, non-traditional applicant for this cycle.

I’m getting quite anxious because I haven’t heard back from majority of schools I applied. Not even rejections or holds. This happened to me last time and I am starting to get worried.

I applied ~30 schools, 2 II (invited on September), 3 pre-II rejections.

I think my stats and application are average that they just set it aside just because I'm a re-applicant in many schools and not getting any attention. Being forgotten...

Should I call each school and check my status? Or should I send any form of updates to schools?

The thing is I am currently working as a full-time researcher at a medical device company and I don’t really have anything to update other than work-related stuff (which is not considered clinical experience at all). I don’t think it will significantly change the outcome but I am thinking maybe giving them any form of heads-up might help.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

You could potentially send a letter of interest and include that you've continued employment at your current job, or list anything interesting about a project that you're working on (it doesn't have to be clinical to be relevant). I did the same thing for one of my schools that I haven't heard from (pre-II), just send a letter reiterating that you really like the school and that it would be a good fit because of X, Y, and Z.

My reasoning is that it really couldn't hurt at this point, given that the schools accept update letters--definitely make sure to check that out first!

It is a myth that they throw away your app because you are a reapplicant.you may be missing vital pieces of information in your app that is causing the silence or you may not have adequately improved the app between cycles. What was the outcome of you II?

Without updates, you probably aren't going to hear much. What tier of schools did you apply to (there's a big difference between applying to 30 top ranked schools and a mix of 5 reach/15 mid-tier/10 safety schools)? A solid mix of medium and lower tier schools with a couple of reaches? Define "average."

Unless something dramatic has changed, I suspect that the Verbal section of the MCAT continues to haunt you.

Your first application cycle was late and you did not complete all of the secondaries. That was strike 1. After that you were a re-applicant which always suggests that there was something deficient the first time.... in your case, your Verbal which was weak the first time was worse the second time which did not help matters.

I just don't see anything that makes me say, "We need to interview this person." Fortunate for you, there were two schools that gave you interviews so there is some hope...(have you heard from those interviews yet?)

Going off of what I see linked in LizzyM's post it is time to include DO schools in your list this time around.
