Hello,
I have a question regarding the application.
I currently have GPA of 3.68 although I have two C's in 400 level science lecture course.

I have a problem with DAT, too.
After the disastrous first DAT score, I retook the DAT,
but it turned out to be another disappointment.
The score is:

AA 18
Biology 20
Gen chem 22
Orgo chem 16 🙂()
PA 22
Reading comprehension 16 🙂()
quantitative reasoning 18

Do you think I need to retake the DAT??
I really want to know if the committee won't look at my application
at all if I indicate the future DAT date on the application.
Because I don't know weather I should take a chace to not indicate
the future DAT date so that I can be evaluated for interview with
current DAT score, or I should indicate the future DAT date.
If I decided to do so, I will take the third DAT on early October.
Do you think this is going to hurt me to get an interview??

And please estimate if I have a good shot at those schools that I am thinking applying:

  • Indiana University (I am Indiana resident)
  • Case school of dental medicine
  • University of Louisville
  • Arizona school of dentistry and oral health
  • Boston University
  • New York University
  • Tufts University
  • Virginia commonwealth University
Any kind of advice would be appreciated! Please help!!!
(But don't be so harsh cuz I am already pretty much in bad shape 😡)

IU looks for 18+ on RC

Unless you think you can really bump those scores up significantly, I wouldn't retake. I'd apply with that test. Someone suggested maybe taking the DAT again but not sending it to any schools. Then is you rock it -- send it out.

I might do that in September since I got a 16 in Bio. But you GPA is pretty good and you've got the 18 AA and a high PA so I'd go for it.

good luck!

well ur first step is to stop calling it Orgo chem and just call it Ochem.

orgo chem haha

I am also applying to Indiana University (resident), so I know the answer to your question. This is from their website under FAQS:

HOW MANY TIMES MAY I TAKE THE DAT AND WHEN SHOULD I CONSIDER RETAKING THE DAT?
A recent ADA ruling limits the number of times you can take the DAT to three. Applicants who score less than 17 on either the academic average or total science or less than 18 on the reading section of the DAT will not be considered for an interview.

So the answer is retake it; you will not get into IU with your RC score.

Pulling out quotes...there is the OP's answer.

I'd be careful though....most schools now are really strict about the "three times and your out rule"....meaning you can only take the DAT three times and thats it. So i'd think about it real hard....if you think you can SIGNIFICANTLY increase your score (atleast in those two areas where you didn't do so good...especially RC) then go for it.....but if you don't think you can than i would leave your options open to be able to take it again next cycle when you have had lots of time to study up.
