Im looking at schools on predents and this is what I am seeing. For example, tufts last year had an AA average of 18.22, yet everyone they have interviewed on predents has a 20 or above! I know it has gradually gotten more competitive every year but i dont see a nationwide jump in scores to be that high. Man, this process just gets frusterating! I dont have a 20 AA but I really was interested in Tufts...and some others for that matter

Any numbers you see are from two years ago, not last year.

plus, the schools right now are interviewing their top choice students. i think (hope may be a better word) that schools will start lowering standards a bit as the cycle goes on. i really hope this is the case at least.

That is the average and not everyone that apply to the school are on predent.com

I know its an average and i know its not everyone they interview. Are those numbers seriously from two years ago?

it all depends at what exactly you are looking at on predents.com.

Predents.com has two sets of numbers. When you go to a school webpage on predents it lists a bunch of into near the top half of the screen. That stuff is two years old and has been taken straight from the ADEA guid to dental school information book. So that info is for the class of 2004 or 2005. The academic average listed there is the average for all the students who got accepted to Tufts for the class of 2004.

When you go a little further down, then you see the information for Predents.com users. These users usually represent a very small minority of the students applying and generally have slightly high stats than the averages. Under "interview" it has 22 for the academic average. and that is just for people signed up for predents.com.

if you want to compare just predents.com from last year vs. this year, there is a feature in the upper left corner that allows you to look at stats for last years class on Predents.com. Click 2006, and you'll see that last year the average for interviewing students was 20.92, which isn't that much lower considering Tufts hasn't finished interviewing students yet, and students with lower DAT scores sometimes don't get the earlier interview calls.

don't extrapolate the stats u see on sdn or predents to the overall pool of applicants... people on here tend to be the "overachiever type" so their stats are higher than most. (as u can tell from the "do u think i will get in with a 3.76 gpa and 22 AA??" posts)

people here are mostly really diligent or really smart. i only found out about this site through an over achieving friend. my stats outlie toward the left in SDN. but there is generally an overall increase in stats over the yrs.

i agree in that the people that are interviewing now are the people that will be entertaining many different offers and that the other half will be getting more interivews as the process moves on....this is my assumption and during two of my interviews i have heard something very similar to that statement from the adcom.
