Diabetes Breakthrough

Who would have thought jalapenos could cure diabetes? This could be the greatest medical achievement of the last 20 years, and would have a huge impact on podiatry.

I don't know about you, but I'm not too fond of some Canadians beating the U S of A.
Therefore I'm kicking off the official Race to Cure Diabetes

Bring it on home boys

Gah this is great

Yeah,

I just thought the same thing before checking SDN. That would be something if they could mimick those results in humans.

Canada is awesome. Don't forget Banting who discovered insulin in the first place (even though that was years ago)! ...And the Edmonton protocol - although I guess that isn't working out as well as originally thought. Let the Canadians have the diabetes achievements! 🙂

It is actually not suprising that a country with socialized medicine would find this breakthru.

The Canadians do not make as much money in pharmacueticles so they are all about finding a cure.

In the USA if there is a cure for diabetes that is tons of money lost by the drug companies. Less sale of insulin, less sale of gliburide, actose, and all those other fine drugs.

Yeah it'd take 15 years for it to reach the market if it was discovered here, with pharm's sway over the whole thing. However most likely this drug, if it's found to work in people, will involve injections every 4 months, and in that case the pharmaceutical companies would jump on the chance to produce it.

That, or it's a good time to buy some stock in Louisiana Hot Sauce

Cool story. THanks for posting it. Isn't it amazing that so many "drugs" are composed of derivatives of natural products or substances? Makes you think how connected we really are we the world (I'll stop there, I am sounding like a tree hugger).🙂

I don't know if you all know this but Capsacin (sp?) has been used for years as a nueropathy treatment and for other types of pain.

At first it stings but sfter several days to weeks of aplication the patient feels relief.

There are creams and lotions containing capsacin.

It is not 100% effective by any means. Many docs use other treatments that are more effective and less painful to the patient.

It is a great option for people who don't want more pills or may not be able to afford neuropathic treatment (i.e. anti-depressants)

But I've never thought of injecting it into someones pancreas.

Man, pancreatic injections would be a mother. I shudder just imagining the needle that would take.
