This is ridiculous!

Is there a big hole in the forums where Anesthesiology used to be solely because the mods cant police all the trash talking nurses? that is pitiful.

Yeah, I'm sure a whole forum got pulled because of nurses 🙄

Well, the anesthesiology forum members are what you would call "high maintenance." Definitely the prima donnas of SDN. Both ER and Path have very large forum memberships and have not had similar issues it seems.

ER and path also don't have several troll CRNAs on their forums.

There are nurses that look like trolls in my hospital as well, so I def. understand.

There were many on-going issues in the Anesthesia forum. including the "CRNA vs MD" one, but it was not the impetus for the change. The Moderators of that forum asked to become a separate entity from SDN and Lee Burnett accomodated them, making them a partner site. Moving the forums is the first step in building the site as an anesthesia resource for medical students and physicians. This new site will partner with SDN, but will operate independently.

We wish them luck in this venture and hope that their users will continue to visit SDN from time to time.

See that's the kind of initiative that leads to greatness. I don't know why ER docs can't do something like that. We should get all the EM people together and go off... ummm...uhhhh...what was I saying? I lost my train off..... OOOO Look! Something shiny....

That sounds like fuzzy math...

I vote in favor of making anesthesia a nurse specialty since they feel so special to have their own site.

*ducks all the flaming bricks from anesthesiologist*

why cant there still be an anesthesia message board? those defectors can start up their own site...independent of sdn

hilarious!
one of the best posts of the year!

The Moderators and users wanted their own TOS (terms of service) which was not in accordance with what is in use at SDN; hence the new site.

It is very possible that in the future another Anesthesia forum will crop up here but in the interim I encourage users to follow the links to the forums at GasNet. Same Mods, same users, hopefully fewer CRNA vs MD threads!

Didn't you know? The Anesthesia Mods rigged up something that will detect whether or not the user is a nurse and it will implode upon trying to link to their new nsite!

OMG ... gone for a while and I come back to find SDN imploding under the strain.

A wise man (who won a bazillion dollar lawsuit for a wrongful beating with the ugly stick, and was the impetus for an incredible riot) once said....."can't we all just get along"

whatup with anesthesia? maybe I am a **** but I don't get why they had to defect.

Rodney King may have been right, but the event here was a long time in coming and not the result of one or two problems. It seemed to be the best solution in a situation in which few could agree on the appropriate action or even the definition of what the problems were.

. . . .thanks, i'll take that as a compliment.😀

j/k, I was a little surprised this happened. It would be nice to have less CRNA vs MD threads but somehow i highly doubt the separate forum will help that way, cause any SDN member can still log in there. I agree with whoever said to leave the SDN anesthesiology forum be, and just make the independent site separate for those who want to go there. I kinda liked seeing what the latest post in the forum was on the forum list screen. And it kinda detracts from all the medical specialties being a community. I disapprove.

Also, I kinda feel like this was a decision made by a few people, without asking what the majority of SDNers would prefer. This action was a total surprise to me.

Yep, that's it. We were so troubled that you hadn't posted in awhile, that Anesthesia took their ball and went home, thinking you weren't coming back! 😉

I figured as much. My apologies for creating this void.

You're right - the majority of SDN users weren't asked, but the Anesthesia Mods felt that the majority of the users who frequented that forum wanted something separate. We had tried other manuevers prior to this and each had failed because the overall beliefs between the parties were just too different. In the end, the CRNA vs MD thread wasn't the great issue but rather the ability to have less stringent moderation than is the standard at SDN was what prompted the move. The Anesthesia Mods felt that having a separate forum in which they could Moderate in the manner in which they believed their users wanted was the only way to solve the problem. Posting on the new forum requires Anesthesia Moderator approval - in some way an attempt to prevent CRNAs with a bone to pick from posting there.

It is unfortunate that it came down to this and I regret any hand that I had in the event. However, I believe the "rules" that SDN has had in place for years have worked well, for the most part, and that the best course is to stick to them until such a time is reached when the majority of users want to change things. While it may seem stringent, I believe the current TOS which bans most foul language and users bashing each other, works best...I have seen what happens when users are allowed free reign. But in the end, there were users who felt the need to have different rules and hence, the new forum.
