Those "BS" Honors Societies...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Not sure why everyone's dissing on these societies so much. Sure, they're meaningless if you just pay the fee and never actually participate, but they're actually great opportunities to meet other people and gain leadership or volunteer experience. Not too mention the free food (always a plus since I'm flat broke)! It's really what you make of it that matters. 🙂

if you truly are flat broke, it doesn't make much sense to pay the fee to join an honor society even if you do get free food (which by the way hardly adds up to the fee that you paid).

golden key send loads of discounts and coupons that are completely legit to me that easily exceede $70. And I believe they send out 100,000K+ of scholarships a year.

You do make a point.

If you took a leadership role or actually participated in some of the volunteer experiences (held an office, did something through the honor society)... go ahead and list it, because it actually was an extracurricular. But most people join these simply to say they were in them, that doesn't help on the application process.

Joining to get the free food/coupons on the other hand. Not going to help you with the applications.

I was thinking of taking a picture of my gold "I got a 3.9" cords and putting it in my app. Do you guys think this is a good idea?
