Im flying into phil international airport, and it seems like its pretty far from the schools. How did everyone get to downtown philly? Taxi seems like itll be $40. If anyone found a cheaper way to get from the airport to downtown phill please let me know.

I used supershuttle in most other cities (costs about $15)

Thanks , Mike

$40 for taxi? I thought most were $20? Are you going in during rush hour? There is septa as well you can grab a train and take it in to center city area. Depends on where you are staying. I haven't heard taxis at $40, then again, I have a car and don't use public transportation in the city much. But its less than $40 from center city to my place 20 miles outside of the city in jersey (including tolls!) so that can't be true. There was another thread on this somewhere (tried to find it - search function isn't working for current threads). If you search for it that should help you out. But I am almost positive someone said its only $20 flat fee from airport to center city. I could be wrong though. Although $40 is stretching it. Check phl.org to see if any information as well. Best of luck!

There is a $20 flat fee from the airport to center city. Not based on time or mileage. Also, the train R6 is either $5.50 or $6.50. It leaves the airport every half hour at 5 minutes and thirty five minutes past the hour. For Jefferson, got off at Market East Station, two blocks from Jeff. For Penn, get off at University City, again two blocks from HUP. Temple is a little harder, you will have to take the broad street line. A taxi ride from the airport to Temple could easily be $40, depending on traffic.

there's a ground transportation desk next to baggage claim....i just went up and asked what was the best way to get to the hotel....and the lady got me on a shuttle for $8? $12?....something fairly reasonable....but i was the last stop and it ended up taking like an hour and a half....so i advise a taxi if you're in a time crunch....but the downtown stops were first if i remember correctly...i was going to upenn so i was sort of out of the way....anyway, hope this helps....

From the airport to the Temple vicinity is generally $30-35 (that was about average to get to my Germantown apartment), but I agree bad traffic can run it to $40 or even $45 at worse. Center City should be $20 as others have said.

I took the Liberty shuttle once, it's not a bad deal at all but it's best if you're not too tired and have some time to spare (it's basically a minivan that you share with others that need to be dropped off). I thought the R1 line was the Septa train that went to the airport? If you're going to stay in Center City and don't have a lot of baggage to lug around, it's definitely a sensible choice.

Lara, who's taken more Philly cabs than I care to remember 🙄

i've taken the septa line several times from the airport... goes to center city as described above. check out www.septa.org

Anytime I had to go to the airport, I always used the R1 train. It's fast and a lot cheaper than a cab. If your hotel is in Center City or University City, I think this is the best way to go. You can get off at (West to East) the University City stop, 30th Street Station, Suburban Station (City Hall), or Market East Station. If you're in Center City and you need to go to Temple, you can take the Orange line (Broad Street) Northbound to Allegheny or Erie (if you take the Express train you have to exit at Erie and walk South). If you prefer to be above ground you can also take the C bus. I've never taken a cab to Temple, but I imagine it would be about $8-10.

One other thing, if you're going to take the train from the airport, I don't remember if they sell tickets in the airport, but if they do, buy one before you get on the train because there is a small service charge for buying once you're on the train.

Good Luck!

the taxi fare was just raised to $25 to or from the airport to center city. septa will set you back $5.50 and on the R1 they will not charge you the service fee if you buy the ticket on the train.

the airport is very close to center city. 20-25 minutes by train, maybe 15 by car depending on traffic (it often is much worse)

where are you staying?
