Hey guys, quick question. What is the general concensus of the over-the-counter teeth whiteners? I know that probably having my dentist whiten my teeth is the best way to do it, but do those Crest Whitestrips and Crest over-night solutions work?

Thanks.

Q:

Yes, they do, as matter of fact, I'm a chronic user of Crest White Strips (not like a pack after a pack). I use one Professional (more concentrated active ingredient) Crest White Strips to start with and then use more to maintain the whiteness (one strip on my teeth a week).

I just recently bought the Crest Overnight Gel, it seems to be working, but to me it's more cumbersome to apply and use. For some reason, when I use the overnight gel, my salivary glands hypersecrets and it's frustrating. I'm drooling all the time.

Nevertheless, these OTC whitening products do work, but it will take a month or so to see the results. If you're interested, Nova dental is selling Professional version of the Crest White Strips again as a fund raiser, just like last year! Usually, Professional Crest White Strips are $100 at dental offices (that's the only place that you can get them), Nova is only selling them for $35.

The Crest White Strips you see in Target and in grocery stores are regular strength version (takes longer to whiten your teeth) which will cost you around $35. So you can get a Professional's version for the price of the regular version!

The biggest complaints about using the OTC whitening products are:

1) gingival tissue irritation - increase tenderness and redness of the gums

2) increase salivation where you spit every 2 seconds

If you're interested in get your hands on a set of Professional Crest White Strips, then let me know. Let a fellow NSU student set you up!

Just wait till you see what the folks at Crest have up there sleeves next. The rep was in my office about 10 days ago and they're now going to have a new version of the professional strips, I believe that they're going to be called whitestrips supreme if memory serves me correctly. They're going to have roghly twice the concentration of activce ingreedient as the regular professional strips, and 4 times of the OTC version😱

I just can't wait until they arrive at my office, we've already got a waiting list of about 10 people who want them, and thats just from the regular folks coming in for prophies during the last week and a half and asking about whitestrips after seeing the laminated 8 1/2 x 11 sheet that is on one of the walls in each of my hygiene operatories. This product honestly just sells itself, and alot of folks will eagerly pay the $100 or so we charge as opposed to the $27.50 that they can get the regular version for at Walmart.

BTW Yah-E, tell the folks at Nova to stop making an extra $10 bucks that they're making off you on the pro whitesrtips, Crest charges me $105 for a case of 4 pro whitestrips, so cost is $26.25 per box.

Professional Supreme? Now, I've got to see/use this! 😀

About my school selling them for more, after all it is a FUND RAISER for American Student Dental Association (ASDA).

At my school, I am the "Crest Whitestrips Girl." I am in charge of ordering and selling them and people are always hounding me in the halls with "Hey, you got anymore of those Whitestrips?"

We also sell the Professional Strength Whitestrips as an ASDA fundraiser. It is a great way to raise money!!!

Yah-E, your school is making $20 per box they sell. Student groups get a special price of $15 per box for the professional strength. At my school we sell them for $25 per box ($10 profit) because the regular strength whitestrips sell for about $25 at Wal-mart, Target, etc. around here. We used to sell them for $20 and we had to debate over raising the price to $25 b/c sometimes its hard to convince people here that we have the "professional strength" which is stronger than "regular strength." I think it's just the community of Buffalo/Western NY we live in, people are just not too sharp or perceptive to realize a bargain when they see it and they are incredibly stingy.

Dr. Jeff, now don't flip out. We're not out to take away your business. The Crest rep has explicitly told me that we can only sell the Whitestrips within our school. So we can't set up a table at the mall to sell them as an ASDA fundraiser because then we would be viewed as "competition" for the local dentists, like yourself, who sell them in their offices. And now I see why - if you get the box for $26.25, you make about $75 dollars per box!!!!! How does the product just sell itself? Is it the people in Connecticut understand the "professional" is stronger than "regular" and are willing to fork it over rather than try the cheaper version from Wal-mart? Because I am always out of breath after I make my sales pitch to get people to buy these things. A lot of times they are attracted to the professional whilestrips because they include a spinbrush and the ones at Walmart don't.

However, I have never tried them myself. I am tempted to, the next time I order a shipment. I had one dental assistant strongly oppose the Whitestrips b/c her friend used them and it didn't bleach the interproximal areas of her teeth. She made such a racket that the other assistants with her were turned off from buying them.

We have access to the Whitestrips Supreme product. They are sweet! They whiten 40% better than the Professional version, which whitens 40% better than the regular consumer product.

Here is the H2O2 breakdown:

Supreme: 100 mg of gel w/ 14% H202 equals 14mg of H202 per upper strip.

Professional: 200 mg of gel w/ 6.5% H202 equals 13mg of H202 per strip.

The Supreme version also whitens 80-90% better than commonly used tray systems (w/ 16% carbamide).

In other words, you guys have got to get these for fundraisers!

Thanks for all your input, guys. I was just curious. Costco had a two pack of the crest overnight thingies along with two tubes of whitening toothpaste for $20.00. I thought it was a steal, so I bought it. I think its made a difference but just wanted to see if it was placebo.
