Thoughts about using Khan Academy?

Hello everyone,

I noticed that Khan academy has a section for MCAT test prep. How does everyone feel about using it? Is it good enough to use alone to study or should it be used secondhand to a review book like EK or Kaplan?

I think it can definitely be a supplement to your study materials but not overtake them. They provide valuable information and a decent amount of practice

I don't use any MCAT books, so Khan Academy has been my main source of information. I've also supplemented with notes from my classes. Don't go and watch every single MCAT video Khan Academy has though, because some of that stuff probably won't be tested. Even the ones you do use, you have to realize what you should learn and which nitty gritty details (like obscure enzymes and whatnot) to not worry about.
I have about 25 practice exams that I've been going through, and if I don't understand a concept or a term, I usually consult Khan Academy

A person at my school took the TPR course, so after she took the MCAT, she sold me access to her materials (a dozen or so TPR exams plus two EK) exams for $120 bucks total. I also had a few Kaplan exams and the 2 AAMC exams

Khan sucks (trust me, I watched all of their videos over the summer). I would recommend Chad's videos.

Damn....and I just started watching the videos for content review, I was half way through biomolecules foundational concepts 1. Do you think I should fall back on this plan?

I just can't really say that much of what I learned with Khan really stayed with me. For content review in Chem/Ochem, I definitely say watch Chad's as his reviews are super well organized and condensed.

I've heard from people who took the MCAT in the fall that Khan Academy does an excellent job at preparing you for what you have to know without any fluff or stuff you don't have to know.

You will spend months going through all of their videos. And if you ever tried to watch any of the videos, it becomes clear that they are filled with minutia.

Yeah, they spent most of their summer going over it but they did end up scoring what would be equiv. to 39-40 on the old scale so it worked for them. For me, since April is so close and I have to do work and school along with studying, I'll be doing my own pace with books. That way I can read whenever.

From what I gathered, no. That would take much too much time! From what I know, they used it for content review and to learn the psych/soc required. They took the AAMC practice exams on top of that and reviewed stuff they got wrong using the videos and Google. Saved them a lot of money!

It's a nice supplement to things you're having trouble understanding. I really just couldn't grasp Magnetism even with a TBR class, so I watched the series. It helped to hear the topic presented in a different way.

I particularly liked their Immunology series as well. We didn't cover that topic in lecture in TBRm nor did I ever take a class, so it was a good crash course for me.

How representative are their psychology and sociology passages to the actual MCAT?

I have to disagree, Khan has been an excellent resource for prep, especially for the P/S section, where many prep companies have fallen short. However, it should not be your only resource during studying. I have heard from a lot of test takers that they had questions on the real MCAT that were nearly identical to those coming from the Khan FSQ's and passages.
