What do people think about Drexel and its probation status?? it is a safe place to go? ( stability, etc....). The P.D. looked very positive about making changes, and pushing the program forward, but I don't know if I should rank this program.

29 days conunting down!!!.

Good luck everybody... 👍

One of the citations involved the ambiguous "lack of scholarly activities", which is supposedly going to be remedied by the appointment of Dr. Horrow as chair. He brings with him ties to the pharmaceutical industry (read: sponsorship), and what seems to be a genuine interest in stimulating research in the department. The recent merging of the former MCP/Hahnemann med school into Drexel University has sparked a lot of talk about making the school a leading biotechnology center, drawing on the tradition of the medical school and the high technology programs for which Drexel is known. I can see this helping the department in their quest to become more academic. There is also a rumor about why the program was placed on probation that revolves around a former chair at MCP Hospital (since closed by Tenet) who was in a sense pushed out of the chair position. This chair was rumored to have friends at the ACGME who were asked to review Drexel's program with a heavy hand. Who knows how much truth resides in that rumor.

Having lived through some of the changes as a student at Drexel, I can speak very highly of the resiliency and dedication of the medical school and hospital faculty in adapting to change and continuing to move forward. I can only believe that this spirit carries over to the Anes. department.

The hospital is old but complete, the location is one of the nicer areas of downtown Philly, and the faculty I have encountered there are all personable and fun.

Hope this helps.
