I'm a non-traditional predent at my possibly last semester in undergrad. I only need 9 more credits to graduate, but with pre-requisites I'm looking at about 20 more. Long story short, my sgpa is only about 3.0. I am taking orgo 2, phys 2 and another non-science course so I can really focus on boosting my sgpa with a low credit load (11 or 12). My question is, is it better to give myself a better shot at a higher gpa than taking a full-credit load that might look better for adcoms? Also, being at 11 credits, would being part-time in undergrad look bad on my application?
Any advice is really appreciated.

I am in a similar situation as you. This year, I only needed 1 course to finish my pre-reqs (and 2 to graduate). I only took human physiology and genetics last semester, but started research with my physiology professor to make up for the low course load. Also, I planned on graduating in December and taking O Chem II at temple, but by sticking around for the spring 2011 semester and taking O Chem II at my university, I can graduate with a minor in chem. So now, I am only taking O Chem II and an upper level biology course (a biology internship). I called a few schools and although they said they would prefer to see a full course load, getting the pre-reqs completed is main priority.

its always more important to earn high grades than to take big semesters and maybe not do as well.

11 credits with perfect 4.0 looks better than 18 credits with 3.4

I agree w dentalworks gpa > course load...I had several quarters where I only took 1 class and still got accepted to a few schools
