I'm going to be interviewing at Bellevue and wanted to know exactly what to expect. Anyone know any info about the program? Pro's... Con's...

I've got a few direct questions about the NYU-Bellevue program that were not addressed in the above thread...

1) Do Bellevue and Tisch have separate EDs? If they do, do residents split time between these 2 EDs 50/50? Do they rotate at any other outside hospitals? Are they level I Trauma centers?

2) Does Bellevue have the same problems as other county hospitals as far as obtaining cutting-edge/expensive medications (i.e. Natrecor)? Or use of state-of-the art technology in the ED (i.e. fiberoptic scope for intubations)?

3) How much transport, blood draws, IV starts do you actually have to do at Bellevue? 100%, 50%, 25%? Also, when you are an upper level resident do you still have to do these things, or are you more of a supervisor?

Thanks in advance....

Come on people... 200 people have viewed this and NOBODY knows anything about Bellevue??? No 4th year rotators? No NYU residents or med students here?

Being a medical student, I could only answer #1:

Bellevue and Tisch do have separate EDs. But residents rotate through both and the VA hospital next door. WOrd on the street is that tisch's ED kinda sucks: cramped. I walked through bellevue's ED several times and was blown away at how much space there is. It's not the ritz carlton but they have the fort covered pretty well. Runs like a well oiled machine from my outsider perspective.
Yes, bellevue is level 1 with high volume, public hospital, immigrants, spanish speaking, indigent, etc. I think there are only 3 other level 1s in manhattan.
