Hi all,

I got my lopsided 507 score back this week: 124 125 128 130. I got this score while working full time at a paid internship that ends June 28th this year.

I am about 90% of the way through AMCAS now. I plan to apply to low tier MD schools and a few DOs. I realize I am fairly competitive for DO programs, but would prefer and MD acceptance, particularly OHSU, as I am an IS student with strong ECs involving Oregon undeserved/ Medicaid communities. Despite this I understand I am very below the bar for getting an allopathic A, but I don't want to give up!

I am confident I can get a 514ish score (mostly thru CP and CARS increases) if I retook sometime in August. This is pretty late for a retake, but taking it earlier is out of the question because I know I would need at least a month of full time studying to get the increases I want. I have a very low GPA (3.45 c and sGPA with positive trend) for MD schools. Considering my ECs I think I have a decent shot at an A with a 514 upwards MCAT at my state school.

My apprehension lies in the fact of retaking the MCAT so late into this cycle. I could obviously forgo applying this year, but I'd prefer not to, plus OHSU's class is made up of 25% re applicants, so it wouldn't be a strike against me there next year (correct me if I'm wrong!). When schools know that an applicant is retaking the MCAT, will they discount my app completely until my new score comes, putting me at a disadvantage despite applying on June 1st? School-by-school basis?

Is it really that against my interests to apply MD this cycle (again, particularly my state school) when retaking the MCAT this late? I'd prefer to get the MCAT out of the way this summer so I can focus on a DIY post bac or expanding ym clinical experience during this cycle for the (likely) event I am a re applicant to MD next cycle?

Just looking for some wisdom, thanks friends
